    摘要: The invention concerns an electrolysis apparatus for producing halogen gases from an aqueous alkaline halide solution with a plurality of plate-like electrolysis cells which are disposed adjacent one another in a stack, are in electrical contact, and each comprise a housing consisting of two half-shells of electrically conductive material with outer contact strips on at least one housing rear wall. The anode and the cathode are separated from each other by a partition wall, are disposed parallel to one another and are connected in an electrically conductive manner to the respective associated rear wall of the housing by means of metal reinforcements. The object of the invention is for the surfaces through which current flows to be as large as possible so as to prevent non-uniform current distribution. To that end, the metal reinforcements take the form of webs (10) which are aligned with the contact strips (7) and whose side edges (10A, 10B) abut the rear wall (3A, 4A) and the anode (8) and cathode (9) over the height of the rear wall (3A, 4A) and the anode (8) and cathode (9).

    摘要: Beschrieben wird ein Hochstromschalter, der insbesondere in aggressiver Umgebung einsetzbar ist, wie beispielsweise als Kurzschließer bei Elektrolyseanlagen, bestehend aus zwei sich gegenüberliegenden Kontaktscheiben (12), die von durch axial einwirkende Kraft betätigbare Stützplatten (14, 15) getragen werden, welche Stützplatten jeweils mit dem Ende einer zugehörigen Anschlußlasche (18, 20) verschraubt oder mit dieser einstückig sind, während das andere Ende der Anschlußlasche mit einer Stromschiene (54, 64) verschweißt ist. Das mit der Stützplatte verbundene bzw. einstückige Ende der Anschlußlasche (18, 20) besteht aus Kupfer, das mit der Stromschiene (54 bzw. 64), die vorzugsweise aus Aluminium besteht, verbundene Ende dagenen aus Aluminium, so daß die Verschweißung ohne Probleme möglich ist. Die beiden Enden der Anschlußlaschen (18, 20) sind wiederum über ein Bi-Metallstück (42) elektronenstrahlverschweißt, das seinerseits aus einer Kupferplatte (44) und einer Aluminiumplatte (46) besteht, die miteinander durch Sprengplattierung verbunden sind

    摘要: An electrical shunting switch assembly (12) for use with a high continuous D.C. current electrochemical cell system (10), for electrically shunting or by-passing a cell (10b) of the system to permit maintenance or replacement, and then permitting stepped or gradual current diversion back through the cell (10b). This shunting switch assembly (12) includes a plurality of electrically parallel switch modules (22) which comprises a vacuum switch (S), a series connected resistance value (R) and switch operating means for sequentially operating the switches (S) for current diversion. The switch modules (22) are disposed in a matrix arrangement connected between bus connectors (14,16) which are connectable across the cell (10b), with switch modules (22) having a low resistance value (Ra, Rc) in alternating adjacent relationship to switch modules having a high resistance value (Rb, Rd). The low resistance value modules (22a, 22c) permit high shunting efficiency. The higher resistance value modules (22b, 22d) provide the capability for stepped or gradual current diversion.

    摘要: A method for converting an electrorefinery comprises the steps of:

    (a) short-circuiting a first section in an electrical circuit of an electrorefining unit and meanwhile:

    removing all electrode sets arranged for operation at a cathode spacing d1 from the electrorefining cells in the section;
    installing electrode sets with a cathode spacing d2 in the cells in the section, except the first and last cells;
    installing in the first and last cells in the section a cell bypassing device so as to bypass the first and last cells;

    (b) after step (a), opening the short-circuit to allow current to circulate through the section again;
    (c) repeating steps (a) and (b) for each of the remaining sections in the unit; and
    (d) interrupting the power supply in the electrical circuit and meanwhile replacing all head-bars configured for operating at cathode spacing d1 by head-bars configured for operating at cathode spacing d2.

    A cell bypassing device is also presented.

    摘要: A multi-cell etectroyzer comprising a plurality or unit cells, each of which is composed of an anode chamber containing an anode and a cathode chamber containing a cathode and a cation exchange membrane for partitioning said unit cell into said anode chamber and said cathode chamber and each of which is adapted to have an internal pressure maintained at a level higher than the atmospheric pressure in operation of the electrolyzer, said plurality of unit cells being arranged in series and adapted to be energized through a plurality of current lead plates, and rigid multi-contact electrically conductive means provided between the adjacent unit cells and/or between each current lead plate and the unit cell adjacent thereto, thereby establishing electrical connection between the adjacent unit cells and/or between each current lead plate and the unit cell adjacent thereto. With such a structure, not only the electrical contact resistance between the adjacent unit cells and between each current lead plate and the unit cell adjacent thereto is extremely reduced, but also the current density in the unit cells is rendered uniform. Further, the present multi-cell electrolyzer can be easily constructed either in a bipolar form or in a monopoler form using unit cells common to both of the bipolar and monopolar forms.
