To improve fire resistance, a fire resistant agent is included in a carbon fiber felt constituting a carbon fiber aggregate, and a binder resin for bonding the carbon fiber constituting this aggregate. The fire resistant agent comprises a phosphorus-containing compound, a boron-containing compound, a silicone compound, or the like. The proportion of the fire resistant agent is about 1 to 30 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of the carbon fiber. The obtained carbon fiber felt and a heat insulating material formed by the felt are excellent in fire resistance.

The present invention also relates to a method for producing a water-resistant regenerated collagen fiber, and the method includes treating a regenerated collagen fiber with a zirconium salt to incorporate the zirconium salt into the regenerated collagen fiber, and then treating the regenerated collagen fiber with a phosphorus compound to incorporate the phosphorus compound into the regenerated collagen fiber, thereby obtaining a water-resistant regenerated collagen fiber containing 12 wt% or more of zirconium salt in terms of zirconium oxide and 2 wt% or more of phosphorus compound in terms of phosphorus. A coated yam prepared by coating a polyolefin yam with a coating composition comprising a polyolefin resin and a flame retardant is provided, wherein the polyolefin is selected from the group consisting of a polyethylene resin, a polyethylene copolymer resin, a polypropylene resin and a polypropylene copolymer resin. The coated yam can readily be recycled to produce a coreless yam useful as a flooring material or other industrial materials, which improves the flame retardancy of conventional non-PVC coated yarns. A fabric woven from the coated yam is useful in the preparation of a blind, a flooring material, wall paper, household items and other interior elements.

A diorganopolysiloxane/acrylate ester copolymer containing emulsion composition for fabric treatment cures at room temperature through removal of water with formation of flexible and highly flame retardant coatings that do not crack even at very low temperatures. Highly flame retardant fabrics can be provided by treatment with the emulsion composition. The emulsion composition contains (A) an emulsion of a copolymer of (a-1) an hydroxyl endblocked diorganopolysiloxane having at least two silicon bonded alkenyl groups in each molecule, and (a-2) an acrylate ester monomer; (B) colloidal silica; (C) a condensation catalyst, and (D) an inorganic flame retardant.
