The starter module includes a sensor operable to provide a signal representative of an operating state of the trowel upon engine start-up. The starter module further includes a controller configured to receive the signal representative of the operating state of the walk behind trowel, and to prevent the clutch from engaging the engine output to drive the rotor if the detected operating state is outside of a designated range for idling operation of the engine.

The PDA is configured to permit the user to navigate through a number of screens permitting rapid and user friendly access to the various functions by relatively untrained personnel. The PDA is also configured to enable the system's CPU to interface with a remote computer to permit the installation of new or upgraded software in the CPU. Some functions preferably are bifurcated so as to provide broad access to skilled maintenance personnel, while providing more limited access to the users.

The apparatus comprises a handle (10) which is designed as an extension arm which is connected to a tool carrier (18) having at least one working tool (19). They are brought to sweep the floor surface by rotation of the tool carrier around an axis of rotation (17) which is substantially vertical in use. The handle enables movement of the apparatus along the floor surface and is connected to the tool carrier via a pivot shaft (15) which is substantially horizontal in use. The pivot connection (15) of the handle (10) to the tool carrier (18) is located at a distance from the axis (17) of rotation of the tool carrier. A support means (21) for the handle is located at the opposite side of the axis (17) of rotation, relative to the pivot connection of the handle.

The hopper (28) is supported by hopper wheels (296, 298) with the flooring material dispensed out of the hopper (28). The height of each side of the hopper (28) is independently adjustable on each side by screw-threaded rods (302, 304) and is not disrupted by lifting the hopper (28) out of operation.
