    摘要: A coring bit for extracting a sample of subterranean formation material from a well bore may include a bit body having a bit face and an inner surface defining a substantially cylindrical cavity of the bit body. A first portion of the inner surface may be configured to surround a core catcher. The coring bit may include a face discharge channel inlet formed in the inner surface of the bit body longitudinally at or above the first portion of the inner surface. The coring bit may also include a face discharge channel extending through the bit body from the face discharge channel inlet to the bit face. A tubular body having a core catcher may be disposed in the coring bit to form a coring tool. Methods of forming such bit bodies may include forming an inlet for a face discharge channel in the inner surface of the bit body at a location longitudinally at or above the first portion of the inner surface and forming a face discharge channel extending from the inlet to the bit face.

    摘要: A core lifter assembly (12) comprises a combination of a core lifter ring (10) and a core lifter case (14). The ring (10) has an ax!a!!y extending portion (16) of an outer generally frusto-conical configuration having an included taper angle β. The included taper angle β is also the taper angle of the outer circumferential surface (18) of the ring (10). The included taper angle β may in alternate embodiments be ≥ 6°; > T°; ≥ 8°; or ≥ 10°. In one embodiment an upper limit of the included taper angle β may be about 30°. Thus in one embodiment the included taper angle β may be expressed by the relationship: 30° ≥ p ≥ 6°. Further, the angle β may comprise any sub range within the aforementioned range of 6 − 30°. However in other embodiments the taper angle may exceed 30°.

    摘要: An improved coring device that incorporates a nonrotatable inner barrel (50) disposed within the outer driving structure (12) of the drill string which is coupled to the coring bit (30). A woven metal mesh sleeve (105) is circumferentially mounted outside the inner barrel (50) and tucked around its lower end (112). The lower end of the mesh sleeve (105) in the inner barrel (50) is in turn connected to a stripper tube (40) which is pulled upwardly during the coring operation. As the core is cut by the coring bit (30) and enters the inner barrel (50), the woven metal mesh sleeve (105) is disposed about the core and constricts about the core when pulled upwardly by the stripper tube (40). The opposing end of the woven metal mesh sleeve (105) is under a weight (126) which serves to compress the metal sleeve (105) when outside the inner barrel (50), thereby increasing its diameter. The plurality of wedge-shaped segments (125) located on the top of the sleeve (105) are collectively brought together to form a core catcher when that end of the woven metal mesh sleeve (105) to which the segments (125) are connected is drawn around and into the lower end of the inner barrel (50).
