Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Bestimmen der Viskosität einer Betriebsflüssigkeit einer Brennkraftmaschine eines Fahrzeugs durch Ermitteln der Füllstandshöhe der Betriebsflüssigkeit. Bei einem bekannten Verfahren wird die Viskosität der Betriebsflüssigkeit aus dem zeitlichen Verlauf von Änderungen der Füllstandshöhe der Betriebsflüssigkeit ermittelt. Dazu wird nach dem Abschalten einer Brennkraftmaschine durch Messung des zeitlichen Verlaufs der Füllstandshöhe des Motorenöls bestimmt. Die Messung kann aber ausschließlich beim Abstellen der Brennkraftmaschine erfolgen. Dieser Nachteil wird bei dem vorliegenden Verfahren dadurch vermieden, dass laufend der Verlauf der Füllstandshöhe und der Verlauf der Querbeschleunigung erfasst wird, um aus der dem zeitlichen Verlauf der beiden Signalverläufe die Viskosität der Betriebsflüssigkeit zu bestimmen. Der Vorteil der Erfindung besteht darin, bereits verfügbare Sensorsignale von in der Serie befindlichen, erprobten Sensoranordnungen miteinander zu kombinieren und daraus als zusätzliche Kenngröße die Viskosität zu ermitteln. Die hierfür notwendige Rechenleistung wird von Standardsteuergeräten übernommen.

The invention relates to a method and device for monitoring and/or determining motor oil quality by determining the viscosity of the motor oil during the operation of internal combustion engines. The quality of motor oil is especially used in motor vehicle technology, for example in order to determine maintenance intervals of motor vehicles, especially intervals at which the oil is to be changed. Known methods require costly measuring techniques and are inexact. According to the invention, the quality of the motor oil is monitored by determining and evaluating the changes in the viscosity of the oil according to the temperature and frictional torque of the motor. This method is carried out in a simple manner without additional measuring devices and with reliable results. Significant changes of the motor oil quality can thus be deemed as an indication that an oil change is necessary.
