A refrigerant-introducing chamber 12 in a body 10 of a refrigerant relief device and an open-to-atmosphere chamber 17 are isolated from each other by a metal thin film 13. The metal thin film 13 is tightly welded to the body 10. The metal thin film 13 receiving refrigerant pressure is positioned by a Belleville spring 19. When the refrigerant pressure reaches or exceeds a set pressure, the shape of the Belleville spring 19 is inverted to displace the metal thin film 13 toward the open-to-atmosphere chamber 17. A piercing rod 18 breaks the metal thin film 13. Refrigerant from the refrigeration cycle is released into the atmosphere.

The valve including a valve body with a fluid passage therethrough, a reverse buckling rupture disc in the valve body in normally blocking relationship to the flow of fluid through the passage, and a selectively actuatable device carried by the valve body adjacent the convex surface. This invention is a reverse buckling rupture disc (12) having a mounting flange (20) and a pressure rupturable member (24) where the rupturable member has a one piece rupture disc with a pair of dome shaped members (22,24) projecting outwardly from the flange and where both domes are lying in the same axial orientation. The first dome shaped member (22) comprises a lower, generally arcuately shaped, wall extending in the axial direction in an arcuately and inwardly oriented configuration. The second upper dome shaped member (24) is comprised by a second arcuately shaped and inwardly extending wall which has a diameter less than that of the first dome shaped member and where the second arcuately shaped wall extends from the first arcuately shaped wall. The rupture disc assembly has a support ring adapted to support the rupture by a central aperture and means adapted to initiate a tear in said rupture disc.

More particularly, a hinge assembly is disclosed having a first hinge member with a flange body and a collapsible hinge, and a second hinge member with a platform hinge, wherein the collapsible hinge is configured to be positioned between the platform hinge and a rupture disk. A rupture disk hinge is also disclosed, having a flange body and a collapsible hinge extending from the flange body. The collapsible hinge may have an approach extending from the flange body, a platform extending from the approach, and a lip extending from the platform. A rupture disk hinge also is disclosed having a hinge extension that extends along a diameter of a flange body across a central fluid flow path.

The pressure relief device includes a sealing member (22) and a low-pressure support member (24) that is adapted to provide support to the sealing member when the sealing member is subject to a certain pressure differential. The low pressure support member includes an annular flange (25) and at least one supporting projection (23). A cutting element (38) is adapted to puncture the sealing member when the sealing member is subject to a predetermined pressure differential. The pressure relief device may further include a high pressure support member (26) and safety heads (34,36) forming a pre-torqued assembly. The supporting projection may optionally include an area of weakness either wholly within or on the periphery thereof.
