The method includes the steps of: (a) lining a conduit (102) with a liner (116); and (b) inserting an automatic mechanism (10) into an internal portion (114) of the liner (116), wherein the automatic mechanism (10) (i) locates a service tap connection point (100); and (ii) at least partially engages a fitting device (12) within an internal surface (120) of the service tap entry portion (106), thereby providing fluid communication between a service tap internal passageway (110) and an internal portion (114) of the liner (116). Apparatus and method for connecting a lateral pipe to a main pipe are provided by a tool having a first end within the main pipe and a second end outside the lateral pipe so as to apply pressure to the below-ground connection of the main and lateral pipes from an above-ground location. The entire operation may be done without a person having to enter into an access opening in the ground to connect the lateral pipe to the main pipe. A laser is used to determine the depth of the access hole relative to the surface of the ground and the main sewer pipe.

Der Hauptstutzen dient zur Axialbewegung eines Absperrglieds (20), welches die Mündungsöffnung des in den Hauptstutzen übergehenden Nebenstutzens bedarfsweise verschließt. Zur Axialbewegung des Absperrglieds dient eine teleskopartig ausfahrbare Spindel (31,32), die am Ende des Hauptstutzens herausragt und dort drehgelagert ist. Zur Drehbetätigung dieses Spindelendes dient eine Schlüsselstange (51), die bedarfsweise in einem Schutzrohr (52) geführt ist. Um eine geringe Bauhöhe zu erzielen, wird vorgeschlagen, zwischen dem Spindelende und der Schlüsselstange ein biegsames Wellenstück (41) anzuordnen und zwischen dem Hauptstutzen und dem Schutzrohr eine krümmbare Schutzhülle (45) zu schalten. A service tee comprises a tubular T-piece (1) having a through-portion (2) with a flexible lower end (6) for connection to a gas or water main (70) by way of a hole in the wall of the main (70) and a side branch portion (3) for connection to a service pipe. The end (6) of the through-portion (2) is adapted for initial insertion into the hole in the wall of the main (70) and then for subsequent radial outward expansion so that its surface sealingly engages with the edge of the hole. An expander (4) is provided for location within the end (6) of the through-portion (2) and is adapted in a first position to permit initial insertion of the end of the through-portion (2) into the hole and on movement to a second position to cause expansion of the end (6) into engagement with the edge of the hole. A plug (5) is also provided, the plug (5) being engageable with the expander (4) and adapted to move the expander (4) from its first to its second position, the arrangement being that after expansion the plug (5) can be moved from a first position where the end (6) of the through-portion (2) is closed off from the side branch portion (3) to a second position where the side branch portion (3) and the end (6) of the through-portion (2) can communicate.
