A method for improving pulp mill steam cycle efficiency includes the steps of providing at least one deaerator tank having a first pressure, and lowering the pressure of said deaerator tank to a second pressure. Feedwater is supplied to a pre-economizer, where it is heated. The water is then delivered to at least one feedwater heater, where it is heated. The water is then delivered to an economizer. By this method boiler steam rate is increased while boiler efficiency is maintained and turbine extraction for deaerator and feedwater heating is minimized.

The power boiler comprises a furnace for the combustion of fuel, a superheater at the upper part of the furnace for producing superheated steam, as well as a flue gas channel (3) for discharging the flue gases from the furnace. The power boiler comprises two parallel furnaces (1a, 1b) which are both equipped with heat transfer surfaces arranged to produce steam. One furnace (1a) is provided, in addition to the heat transfer surfaces, with a final superheater (2) which is arranged to superheat the steam to a final temperature. The second furnace (1b) can be dimensioned as a boiler for refuse incineration in which the requirements for the combustion temperature and the retention time are met.

In a electric power generation system for generating steam by utilising heat from waste burning furnace (1) and introducing the steam into a steam turbine (3), a fuel reforming type burner (20) is provided and exhaust gas from the waste burning furnace is supplied as an oxidiser to it. NO x in the exhaust gas is reduced by H and CO generated from the fuel reforming type burner so as to become nitrogen gas and further dioxin is reduced too. Thereby clean gas is exhausted into the air. The exhaust gas from the fuel reforming type burner is utilised to increase the superheating degree of the steam so as to raise the electric power and improve the quality thereof.

The steam generator (1) proposed uses biomass as fuel (S) to achieve particularly high efficiency. It includes a first combustion chamber (24) in which a gaseous working fluid (A) is produced by burning a first fuel (K) and a second combustion chamber (26) in which a second fuel (S) is burnt. The second combustion chamber (26) is downstream, relative to the direction of flow of the working fluid (A), from the first combustion chamber (24). The fuel (K) fed to the first combustion chamber (24) is coal and/or the fuel (S) fed to the second combustion chamber (26) is biomass, in particular straw. The working fluid (A) produced in the first combustion chamber (24) when the steam generator (1) is in operation is used as combustion air in the second combustion chamber (26).

The system detailed in this invention is distinguished by the fact that it comprises a first phase of water heating, by means of a boiler fed with low quality fuel and/or fuel with a high problem of corrosion at high temperatures, the temperature of the vapour obtained being increased during a second heating phase, by means of a superheating-reheating installation (1) fed with traditional fuels.

The invention is related to a method for processing vinasse that is liberated during the preparation of alcohol from melasse and sugar cane sap and that until now was a useless waste product, in which this vinasse not only is used in a useful manner but moreover leads to an important saving of energy in the alcohol process, characterized in that this is obtained by the fact that the vinasse is liberated during the production of alcohol of which vinasse the dry solids content is 2 to 10%, is concentrated to a dry solids content of about 60%, this concentrated vinasse is burned with an excess of air by spraying in a steam boiler, the steam developed therein being partly supplied to the apparatus for the concentration of the vinasse and for the rest is used in the alcohol preparation process producing the vinasse. With this method a remarkable saving in energy is obtained. The invention also is related to an apparatus for performing said method.
