The invention relates to a device for the rapid freezing of the surface or the entirety of starting stubstances, especially food or pharmaceuticals, said device having a treatment region (B) through which a deep-frozen liquefied gas flows as a coolant, said gas freezing at least the surfaces of the starting substances and causing relative movements between the starting substances immersed in the coolant. The treatment region (B) consists of modules (M1, M2, M3, M4) and the length of said region can be modified by adding or removing at least one module.

A process of freezing a belt (46) of encapsulated ice substitute is provided. The process for freezing the ice substitute belt generally includes the steps of preparing a capsule belt (46) with a plurality of capsules (48), each capsule containing a thermal controlling agent which is a liquid in a predetermined temperature range; preparing a brine (12) including a cruciferous oil, salts and a glycol and cooling the brine; feeding the belt into an apparatus (11) which contains the cooled brine and passing the belt through the brine, adjusting the speed to the extent sufficient for the thermal controlling agent to become solidified. The travelling speed of the ice substitute belt is adjusted depending on the composition of the thermal controlling agent.

Apparatus for preparing packaging materials for use in shipment of heat sensitive materials, utilizes a hydration module (11), a freezing module (40), and a delivery module (45). Rolls of superabsorbent polymer-based refrigerant media (117) in the form of a continuous web of a selected length and width are maintained in dry storage. These may be cut to size along the web material which separates cells containing the superabsorbent polymer. The web or pad is advanced into the hydration module (11) which comprises a dip tank (17) or spray system (26) to provide an adequate supply of hydrating fluid to the superabsorbent polymer. The hydrated web is then conveyed through a freezing chamber (40) having a temperature of -10 DEG Fahrenheit, or lower, where the fluid absorbed within the cells freezes. The small footprint of the modular system means that necessary handling, including cutting into a suitable size and shape, may be accomplished in the consumer's shipping area for placement around perishable materials in shipping containers.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for sterilizing and chilling animal carcasses is provided comprising a tank for holding water, a means for cooling water in the tank, piping for carrying contaminated water out of the tank, a means for injecting ozone into the water of the apparatus, a means for purifying contaminated water in the piping, piping for returning purified water back to the tank and a means for decomposing gaseous ozone which escapes from the water in the tank before the gas is liberated into the atmosphere. The ozone destroys all forms of harmful microorganisms in the carcasses and the water. Because the water of the system is sterilized it can be disposed of easily.

Eine Vorrichtung zum Kühlen von Körpern (1 - 13), insbesondere von weichen Formkörpern wie Grünanoden, umfasst mindestens einen ersten und einen zweiten Wagen (200) zur Aufnahme eines der Körper (1 - 13) sowie ein Kühlbad mit einer ersten Kühlbadbahn (110) mit einem Kühlmittel, in welchem die beiden Wagen (200) aufnehmbar und verfahrbar sind. Die erste Kühlbadbahn (110) weist an einem ersten Ende einen Eintritt und an einem dem ersten Ende gegenüberliegendem zweiten Ende einen Austritt für die Wagen (200) auf. Der im Bereich des Eintritts in der ersten Kühlbadbahn (110) angeordnete zweite Wagen (200) ist mittels eines Antriebs (600, 601) so verfahrbar, dass der erste Wagen (200) antriebsfrei durch den zweiten Wagen (200) in Richtung des Austritts der ersten Kühlbadbahn (110) vorgestossen werden kann.
