The invention concerns a method for preparing a blend consisting of power station ashes and/or slugs, and/or coal wastes in a quantity of 60-95% by weight, as well as an agglomeration promoting binder, including sewage after-fermentation sludge in a quantity of 5-40% in the dry state, said blend being so prepared that its total moisture contents is below 21%, and while maintaining features of a pourable material it can be homogenized in mixers provided with high speed rotary homogenizing means. After agglomerating said blend is fired in a rotary furnace. A firing method is characterized by that the rotary furnace operates with charge and gas phase moving in the co-current arrangement, what enables almost autothermal process with firing in the same time harmful volatile substances released from a binder. Said autothermal process is also promoted by the double-diameter structure of the furnace (a wider part 1A and a narrow par 1B), by its substantial slope, precise insulated heads 2 and 7, as well as gas ducts 3 and 14, and by dividing thee air stream, one part of which is directly supplied through the layer of the material being fired and sintered.

The invention relates to combusting contaminants on foundry sand in a container (13) rotating about an axis (A) at a particular angle with a particularly placed oxygen-fuel burner (32). As the container (13) rotates about the axis (A), the oxygen-fuel burner (32) fires a flame and excess oxygen at a particular angle to enhance pyrolysis of the contaminants. The amount of excess oxygen is such that the resulting off gas contains at least 2% oxygen by volume, thus preventing or substantially minimizing products of incomplete combustion from leaving the container (13). After having pyrolyzed the contaminants, the firing of a flame and excess oxygen from the oxygen-fuel burner (32) may be replaced with oxidant dispersion at the bottom of the foundry sand. The resulting off gas from the container (13) may be treated in a post combustion furnace (7), a flue gas cooling means (8), a filtering device (9) and/or a pollutant removing means (11).

In a method of recycling iron and steel industry waste (1-1, 1-2) by processing the waste (1-1, 1-2) as an object substance by the use of a rotary kiln (7), the object substance is changed into a valuable material while the object substance travels within the rotary kiln (7) from an upstream side to a downstream side. The object substance is heated on the upstream side of the rotary kiln (7) within a reducing atmosphere to be reduced and molten into a reduced and molten product. The reduced and molten product is quickly sent to the downstream side without being adhered to an internal wall of the rotary kiln (7). The valuable material is extracted from the reduced and molten product which may be directly discharged out of the rotary kiln or which may be discharged after the reduced and molten product is once kept in a basin formed in the vicinity of the downstream side of the rotary kiln (7).
