Wenn es zu einem ungewollten Lösen der Arretierung des vorgespannten Schlagbolzens (26), insbesondere der Sicherung des Kipphebels (37), kommt, hat das ein unkontrolliertes Zünden der Farbrauchgranate (10) zur Folge. Die Erfindung sieht es vor, den Schlagbolzen (26) erst unmittelbar vor dem Zünden der Farbrauchgranate (10) bei festgehaltenem Kipphebel (37) zu spannen. Durch Loslassen des Kipphebels (37) wird der Schlagbolzen (26) zum Einleiten der Zündung der Farbrauchgranate (10) freigegeben. Durch diese Vorgehensweise braucht bei einer vom Kipphebel (37) betätigten Farbrauchgranate (10) der Schlagbolzen (26) nicht ständig gespannt zu sein. Vielmehr wird der Schlagbolzen (26) erst dann gespannt, wenn die Zündung der Farbrauchgranate (10) beabsichtigt ist.

Preferably, a second irritating device is provided which generates a single second irritating signal at the beginning of or shortly before the first irritating signals or repeatedly generates second irritating signals at a rate that is significantly lower than the rate of the first irritating signals. Preferably, the first irritating signals are optical flashes of light while the second irritating signals are bang-type acoustic signals.

A self-contained grenade capable of dispersing a non-toxic obscurant composition, or various types of aerosol compositions such as pesticides or antimicrobial/sanitizing agents, is provided. The obscurant or other type of aerosol composition is released via an exothermic reaction. Release of the obscurant or other type of aerosol composition is effected in a controlled manner by creating heat via a heat producing composition comprising, for example, a thermite composition. The obscurant or other type of aerosol composition is absorbed into a heat transfer media disposed adjacent the heat producing composition. When the exothermic reaction occurs, the heat transfer media transfers the heat to the absorbed material, thereby providing a regulated thermal dispersion of same.
