Examples of a system for generating and confining a compact toroid are disclosed. The system comprises a plasma generator for generating magnetized plasma, a flux conserver for receiving the compact toroid, a power source for providing current pulse and a controller for actively controlling a current profile of the pulse to keep plasma's q-profile within pre-determined range. Examples of methods of controlling a magnetic lifetime of a magnetized plasma by controlling a current profile of the current pulse are disclosed.

Systems and methods may provide for obtaining first sensor data associated with a gyroscope and obtaining second sensor data associated with a magnetometer. Additionally, the first sensor data, the second sensor data and an extended Kalman filter may be used to calibrate the magnetometer. In one example, a sampling rate of the magnetometer is increased before obtaining the second sensor data and the sampling rate of the magnetometer is decreased after calibration of the magnetometer.

A system and method for measuring the concentration of magnetic ballast in a slurry to be analyzed is provided. A detection conduit is provided and configured to receive a slurry to be analyzed. The detection conduit may be surrounded by a set of detection coaxial coils. A reference set of two coaxial coils is also provided. A power source is provided for establishing an electrical current. A measurement subsystem for measuring the differential induced voltage between detection and reference coils is provided to determine the concentration of the magnetic ballast in the slurry.

The method comprises obtaining a plurality of magnetometer readings; applying an active set of calibration parameters to the plurality of magnetometer readings to obtain a plurality of values; applying a new set of calibration parameters to the plurality of magnetometer readings to obtain a plurality of further values; applying an active set of calibration parameters to the plurality of magnetometer readings to obtain a plurality of further values; and replacing the active set of calibration parameters with the new set of calibration parameters when a quality of the plurality of values is higher than a quality of the further values.
