An image forming method comprising; a charging step of electrostatically charging a photosensitive member; an exposure step of exposing the charged photosensitive member to form an electrostatic latent image; a developing step of bringing a toner carried on a developer carrying member, into contact with the surface of the photosensitive member to develop the electrostatic latent image to form a toner image on the photosensitive member; a transfer step of transferring the toner image formed on the photosensitive member, to a transfer medium; and a cleaning-at-development step of collecting the toner remaining on the photosensitive member after the transfer step, onto the developer carrying member; wherein; the surface of said photosensitive member has a contact angle with water of 85° or greater; said toner contains residual monomers in an amount not more than 1,000 ppm; and said toner has a shape factor SF-1 of from 100 to 180 and a shape factor SF-2 of from 100 to 140.

Described is an image forming material in which a developer container (e.g.3) containing a developer consisting of an electrically insulating organic material that is solid at ambient temperature and that may be liquefied on heating and colorant particles dispersed in the material is made as one with a photosensitive base on which to form an electrostatic latent image. With such image forming material, the developer required in the developing process is incorporated in a photosensitive base (2) to permit image formation and storage by the electrophotographic process to be performed as easily as in so-called instant photography. When the outer size of the image forming material or that of the separated photosensitive base is of the 35 mm format slide size, the imaging material or the base may be attached directly to a slide projector or the like to render the image information to be seen easily.

The developer is superior in ease of handling and capable of producing stable images at all times. An electrostatic latent image is wet developed by the developer. For recording and preserving the developed image, it is transferred to a transfer substrate. The developed image is transferred by contact of a photoconductor with the transfer substrate, or by peeling a film from a photoconductor.
