摘要： An electrophotographic imaging apparatus having a first toner accepting layer and an intermediate transfer member (10). The first toner accepting layer is positioned in electrical contact with a) a charge provider, b) an irradiation source that activates photoconductivity in the first toner accepting layer, and b) at least one toner applicator, so that a first toner image can be formed on the first toner accepting layer. The first toner layer is movable, after interaction with a), b) and c), into contact with the intermediate transfer layer from which the first toner image can be transferred to an image bearing member. The intermediate transfer member (10) comprises a non-conductive flexible film layer (80), a layer of an electrically conductive material affixed to a first surface of the non-conductive flexible film layer (80) and segmented into electrically isolated regions or zones, and the electrically conductive material layer has an electrically resistive polymeric coating thereon.

摘要： An image forming apparatus is provided including a photoreceptor (1), an electrically charging unit (3) for evenly charging the photoreceptor (1) to a predetermined potential, a light exposure unit (4) for exposing the surface of the charged photoreceptor (1) to light so as to form an electrostatic latent image, a developing unit (5) for causing toner to adhere to the photoreceptor surface so as to develop the electrostatic latent image into a toner image, and a transferring unit (6) to which a predetermined transfer voltage is applied for transferring the toner image to a sheet. The application of the predetermined transfer voltage to the transferring unit (6) is started before the leading end of the toner image reaches the position opposite the transferring unit (6) but after the leading end of the sheet has reached the position opposite the transferring unit (6).

摘要： An electrostatographic recording apparatus and method includes a primary charger that establishes a uniform electrostatic charge on the image recording member in accordance with a first operating parameter. A recording device that imagewise modulates the charge on the image recording member to form electrostatic images in accordance with a second operating parameter and additionally forms a developable process control patch. A development station develops the electrostatic images and the control patch on the image recording member with toner in accordance with a third operating parameter. A transfer station transfers developed images from the image recording member. The transfer station includes a transfer member and power supply providing to the transfer member a transfer current used for transferring developed images. In one embodiment a sensor senses density of the developed control patch. A controller in response to density of the control patch provides adjustments to the first, second and third operating parameters and controls the power supply to provide to the transfer member transfer current as a function of a parameter related to one of the first, second or third operating parameters. In other embodiments transfer current can be determined in response to other more direct measures of charge to mass ratio in the development station.

摘要： A copier includes a transfer charger (56) for electrostatically transferring a toner image which is formed on a surface (50a) of a photoelectric drum (50) to a sheet and a separation charger (57) for separating the sheet with a toner image transferred thereto from the drum surface (50a). A transfer guide (75) is provided on a conveying path upstream of the transfer charger (56) to guide the sheet toward a transfer point (62) provided relative to the photosensitive drum. A separation supporter (76) for supporting the sheet is provided above the separation charger (57). A transfer output from the passing of a leading edge portion of the sheet through the transfer point (62) to the supporting of it by the separation support (76) is switched to a High level, a transfer output from the supporting of the leading edge portion of the sheet until just before the trailing edge of the sheet is moved away from the transfer guide (75) is set to a Middle level, and a transfer output from the moving of the trailing edge portion of the sheet away from the transfer guide (75) until it is passed through the transfer point (62) is set to a Low level. By doing so it is possible to uniformly print a sheet from a leading edge to a trailing edge and form a better-quality image.
