A cabin pressure control system (CPCS) software control logic modification may boost the voltage applied to a motor by applying a duty cycle offset to compensate for asymmetric motor loading. The motor may be part of an open-loop system for operating a butterfly valve that may regulate outflow from the aircraft cabin. In CPCS applications, the loading on the butterfly valve is unidirectional due to a mechanical spring and pneumatic loading, thus, causing asymmetric loading to the motor. By boosting the motor voltage when the motor is required to act against the asymmetric load, CPCS performance and robustness may be improved.

Presence/absence of failure of a PWM-driven load can easily be judged according to the state of pulse voltage applied to the load. A failure diagnosis apparatus (10) judges failure of an electromagnetic valve (2) pulse-width modulation driven by a drive circuit (4) in response to a control pulse signal (P1). A voltage signal (VA) generated by a pulse width modulation drive is input to a smoothing circuit (11) at a connection point (A) between the electromagnetic valve (2) and the drive circuit (4) so as to obtain a smoothing output voltage (VB). It is determined whether the level value of the smoothing output voltage (VB) is a predetermined value determined by the duty ratio of the control pulse signal (P1) which is a duty ratio set for pulse width modulation drive, thereby judging presence/absence of failure of the electromagnetic valve (2).

Mit diesem Regelausgangssignal (V AUS ) wird in einem Impulsbreitenmodulator (20) ein Frequenzsignal erzeugt, wobei das Tastverhältnis der Impulse gemäss dem Regelausgangssignal (V AUS ) gesteuert ist. Dieses Frequenzsignal wird zum Treiben eines Niederspannungs-Gleichstrommotors (M) verwendet, der über ein hochuntersetztes Getriebe die Ventilkugel eines Kugelhahnes verstellt. Damit kann trotz des relativ groben Ventiltyps und relativ grosser Anfahrdrehmomente eine feine Regelung bei kleiner Verlustleistung erzielt werden.
