摘要: In an exposure device according to the present invention, a plurality of exposure bands each containing multiple dots is formed on photographic paper by repeating main scanning in a main scanning direction based on image data that contains multiple pixels and the transfer of the photographic paper in a sub scanning direction. Of the multiple dots contained in each of two continuous exposure bands, the mean value of the pixel levels of two pixels corresponding to two dots with the same positional relationship for the main scanning direction is calculated to derive interpolation data. Thus, the region between the two dots neighboring in the sub scanning direction on the photographic paper is exposed on the basis of the interpolation data.

摘要: A print drive 41 is present in an electronic pre-press workflow that includes a raster image processor "RIP" 34 and an output device 46 to receive, store, combine and transmit raster data processed by the raster image processor 34. A prepress imposition scheme is created at the front end 40 and processed by the RIP 34 . Prepress imposition parameters 510-519 are used to generate a press sheet template image 102 , which is transmitted to the print drive 41 . The print drive 41 is capable of applying the press sheet template 102 to page raster data 94 on demand to form a multi-page press sheet assembly 98 so that raster images 94 of individual pages 90 remain independent. Among other benefits, this improves electronic prepress workflow by eliminating the need to generate combined raster images of multi-page press sheets to correct or modify a portion of the assembly.

摘要: A method of reducing pixel density in pixel array printers, alternatively termed depletion, uses information about a pixel when it is first available instead of having to recalculate that information at a later time. According to embodiments of the present invention, the process of identifying edge pixels for the purpose of depletion is performed during a halftoning process, in which every pixel in a pixel data array is examined. Pixels are classified as one of four possible pixel states: a blank pixel, a left/right edge pixel, a top/bottom edge pixel, or an area-fill pixel. The pixel state information is stored in a modified pixel data area. A predetermined pattern of filled and unfilled smaller pixels is identified with each pixel state. Each element in the modified pixel data array is mapped onto the smaller pixels according to the predetermined pattern and a printer is controlled according to the resulting pattern.

摘要: A technique for printing black text on a colored background (44), in which the graphics (40) are broken down into three categories: text, polygons (also referred to as line drawing or vectors), and images (also referred to as bitmaps or raster data) when the incoming graphic information is a Page Description Language (PDL) data file (e.g. Adobe Postscript -PS- or Hewlett-Packard PCL). If the object is not a text object, it is processed in a normal manner. If the object (41) is a text object, a determination is made if the color of the object is black (42). If the object is not a black text object, it is processed in a normal manner. If the object is a black text object, special processing and rasterization techniques are applied. Thus, the invention exploits to advantage the fact that is possible in most PDL instances to treat black text differently from other black objects.

摘要: A PC (5) supplies previously compressed print data to a printer (1). In the printer (1), image data are generated based on the supplied print data, and the generated image data are developed in an image memory (10). Since the print data are compressed, a compressor/decompressor (32) decompresses the print data. If available free area in the image memory (10) is insufficient for developing the image data, the compressor/decompressor (32) compresses the image data previously stored in the image memory (10), and the image memory (10) is refreshed with the compressed image data. The compressed image data are decompressed by the compressor/decompressor (32) before output to a printer engine (4). The compressor/decompressor (32) is available for decompressing the print data during a period since the data reception from the PC (5) until a sheet of paper (P) onto which an image is formed reaches a predetermined position. When the sheet of the paper (P) reaches the predetermined position, the compressor/decompressor (32) is switched to decompress only the image data in the image memory (10).
