The present invention provides a method to reinforce the security of a conventional transaction performed by a Short-Range (SR) communication-enabled chip card, wherein the chip card is paired with at least one SR communication-enabled handset, the method comprising the steps of: initiating the conventional transaction between the chip card and a reader; wherein the method is characterized in that: sending, by the chip card, an authentication request to at least one of the at least one paired handsets over an established Short-Range (SR) communication channel; receiving, by a paired handset, the authentication request and computing an authentication result granting or refusing the transaction; sending, by the handset, an authentication response to the chip card over the established channel, the authentication response comprising the authentication result; and continuing or stopping, by the chip card, the conventional transaction with the reader depending on the authentication result.

A dynamic transaction card with EuroPay-Mastercard-Visa (“EMV”) technology that includes an EMV interface connecting EMV contacts and an EMV processor to enable a multifunctional dynamic transaction card. A method of manufacturing a dynamic transaction card with an EMV interface connecting EMV contacts and an EMV processor. A dynamic transaction card with an EMV interface may be manufactured using a separate printed circuit board (PCB) layout with EMV contact patterns placed into the top surface of a molding to create the dynamic transaction card. The edges of the EMV contact patterns would be incorporated through holes, which are trimmed to scallops, to allow for surface mounting. The EMV interface may then include a connection between the EMV contact patterns and the EMV microprocessor such that the EMV microprocessor does not have to be placed directly beneath the EMV contact patterns.

A method is intended for authenticating a user of a contactless chip card (CC) by means of a contactless card reader (CR). This method comprises the steps of: (i) using this contactless card reader (CR) for acquiring a first image of at least a part of the user hand that holds it (CC) when it is presented to this contactless card reader (CR), (ii) comparing this first image with a second image stored into this contactless chip card (CC), this second image defining a reference image of at least this part of the user hand when it holds the contactless chip card (CC), to determine if this first image is similar to this second image, and (iii) authenticating this user if this first image is effectively similar to this second image.

A payment system and method of IC card and a multi-application IC card as well as payment terminal are proposed in the present invention. The terminal and the IC card perform off-line data authentication using an asymmetric key algorithm during an off-line transaction, and if the transaction is not approved in manner of off-line, the terminal and the IC card performs an on-line transaction via a host. Therefore, the payment system and method of IC card and the multi-application IC card as well as payment terminal disclosed in the present invention can be used both in machinery without on-line transaction environment and in standard merchant machinery with on-line transaction environment.

The data storage medium (10) uses a public group key (PKG) as a public key. As a secret key the data storage medium (10) uses a key (SK1) which has been derived from a secret group key (SKG) associated with the public group key (PKG).
