    摘要: This invention is an interactive learning device in the form of an open book (10) for toddlers and preschoolers, having a plurality of embodiments. In one embodiment the book has three-dimensional letters of the alphabet (26, 30, 31, 32) received by a card (33, 34, 39) that spells a word. The card (33, 34, 39) is adapted to be placed in the book (10) and a speech processor circuit recites the word written therein and sounds the phonic associated with each phoneme in the word when the child places the correct alphabet letters in the card, and repeats the entire word. In a second embodiment the book acts as a simple translator. In a third embodiment the book teaches elementary mathematical operation. In a fourth embodiment the child may learn the sounds and names associated with various animals, and may also translate the animal names. A plurality of shapes and colors may also be represented by cards (33, 34, 39, 40, 64, 72) and indicia bearing units (26, 30, 31, 32, 68, 77).

The technique includes an apparatus, method, system, and computer program product using Word Things to build on a foundation of language development and bring users (e.g., children) toward a world of literacy. The Word Things are comprised of a set of linguistic characters formed such that when the linguistic characters are arranged to form a word, the word forms a shape representative of an object represented by the word. In animated versions, the Word Things interact in a Word World environment, making letters, phonics and words come alive in a new and unique way by giving them a physicality that enhances appeal and comprehension.
