    摘要: The present invention provides a tape head (30) with reduced pole-tip recession. A recessed substrate (37) and a closure (32) of the tape head are separated by a plurality of layers, which include, for example, a bottom layer (35), a recessed bottom pole (86), a write gap (88), a shared pole (84), a read gap (60), a top pole (82) and a top layer (48). The recessed bottom pole is positioned in the recess of the substrate. By utilizing the recessed substrate and the recessed bottom pole, the thickness of the overcoat layer is reduced, thereby reducing the distance between the substrate and the closure at an air-bearing surface of the recording head. With the present invention, wear is reduced, thereby reducing pole tip recession.

A multi-channel magnetic head is also disclosed which includes a plurality of magnetic heads having different azimuth angles of the magnetic gaps, wherein each magnetic head is formed by abutting a pair of magnetic core halves to each other, each of the magnetic core halves having a magnetic metal film formed in the vicinity of at least a substrate surface facing a magnetic recording medium, for defining a magnetic gap between the magnetic metal films, and wherein a recess for forming a coil is formed in the abutting surface of at least one of the magnetic core halves, and the coil is formed in the recess by thin film forming technique. The methods for producing the magnetic head and the multi-channel magnetic head are also disclosed.

A process is also disclosed for producing such magnetic heads wherein the pair of magnetic cores are positioned close to each other, and the gaps G1 and G2 are accurately positioned on the same plane.
