The arrangement is provided in a cylindrical tap changer (10) that includes a cylinder (24) provided with tap contacts and pre-selector contacts (25-27) extending inside the cylinder, the arrangement comprises a contact carrier (9) provided with at least one movable contact (8) for mating the pre-selector contacts of the cylinder (24), and a drive mechanism (21) for providing a rotational movement to the contact carrier (9), which contact carrier (9) during use is rotated by means of the drive mechanism (21) so that the movable contact (8) selectively mate with the pre-selector contacts (25-27) on the inside of the cylinder. The invention relates to a method of producing a winding (1), e.g. for an electrical transformer, from a cylindrical, tubular metal element having a straight polygonal section. The inventive method is characterised in that it comprises the following steps consisting in: machining a series of essentially-parallel cuts through all of the sides (1a, 1c, 1d) of the tubular element excluding one last side (1b), said step being performed in a first series of passes; and, in a second series of passes, machining cuts in the aforementioned last side (1b) in order to form a junction with the cuts in the adjoining sides, such that said cuts are continuous and form a single helicoidal groove.

An on-load tap changer of the present invention comprises a switch 18 including an arc interrupting unit 20, a vessel 16 containing therein the switch, an electrically insulating oil disposed within the vessel for electrically insulating the switch, and a closed oil passage loop 43 for circulating the insulating oil therealong. The loop includes a conduit 38 having an inlet at the bottom portion of the interior of the vessel, the conduit upwardly extending inside of the vessel and exiting from the upper portion of the vessel, extending through a position lower than the vessel, and connecting to an upper portion of the vessel, the conduit having formed therein a hole 44 at a position higher than the arc interrupting unit, the hole being inside of the vessel. A float valve 46 is provided in the vessel for closing the hole in the conduit when the level of the insulating oil within the vessel is at or higher than the hole and opening the hole when the level of the insulating oil within the vessel is lower than the hole.
