The invention relates to a battery for motor vehicles, comprising a battery box (2) divided into cells (1), electrode plates (3) arranged in the cells (1), an electrolyte liquid (4) that surrounds the electrode plates (3), and a device for mixing the electrolyte liquid (4) in the cells (1). The device comprises a partition that forms a flow path (10) which is separated from the electrode plates (3) and which fluidically connects an upper region to a lower region of the cell (1). The invention is characterized in that the partition (5) has a flap (7) in the upper region, said flap extending preferably across the entire width of the partition (5) and defining a part of the flow path (10) together with adjoining inner walls (6) of the battery box (2). A process of manufacturing valve-regulated lead-acid batteries, comprising pasting lead alloy grids with a paste comprising lead oxide, sulphuric acid and water, thereby forming plates which when recently pasted are wet, characterised in that said process comprises the steps of:
(a) applying at least one layer of a non-woven glass microfibre material to at least one face of at least one of said wet recently-pasted plates, and (b) wet calendering said plates having at least one layer of a non-woven glass microfibre material with rollers to obtain a final pre-determined plate thickness, whereby a reduction is obtained in the thickness of said layers of non-woven glass microfibre material of 20 to 40% with respect to its initial non-compressed value. Thereafter, and optionally, the process furthermore next comprises applying a compression step during at least one of the curing and drying processes of the plates, which gives rise to an additional reduction in the thickness of the mentioned layers of non-woven glass microfibre material of 10-15% with respect to its previous value. Lastly, likewise optionally, the process further comprises applying an additional compression step of the group of plates prior to its insertion into the battery container, giving rise to an additional reduction in the thickness of the said layers of non-woven glass fibre material, of 10-15% with respect to the previous value.

Um einen Bleiakkumulator in Zylinderform mit den eingangs genannten Merkmalen zu schaffen, welcher relativ einfach und preiswert herstellbar ist und dennoch eine hohe Kapazität und eine möglichst hohe Zahl von Wiederaufladungszyklen aufweist, wird erfindungsgemäß vorgechlagen, daß mindestens die erste Elektrode (2, 2', 3, 4) als Gitter ausgebildet und mit aktiver Masse (3) in Pastenform bestrichen ist, welche Schwefelsäure und entweder Blei oder Bleidioxid in fein verteilter Form enthält, während die jeweils andere Elektrode Einrichtungen zur Aufnahme und zum Halten der jeweils anderen aktiven Masse, welche Bleidioxid bzw.
