The interface between the cartridge case bore (27) and the bushing (14) is sealed during detonation of the power cell by means of the circumferential ribs (62). The bushing (14) undergoes an "accordion effect" during detonation characterized by axial compression of the bushing (14) and resulting in the prevention of powder gas escape through the open breech end (24) of the cartridge case (10).
