According to the information, determination occurs after detection of a current ripple at a point in time kt t0 at a subsequent point in time or at several subsequent points in time t1...n, the time interval between each subsequent point in time t1...n and the point in time t0 of the previous detection of the current ripple being smaller than the period of the current ripple, whereby the angle of rotation which is set back from the moment t0 of detection of the current ripple is calculated on the basis of actual motor current data and motor characteristic data and, from there, the expected moment in time of the next current ripple detection is calculated. The metered current ripple result is corrected if the expected moment in time resulting from the calculation and the moment of real current ripple detection do not coincide with each other.

A method for correcting the determination of the rotational position of a commutated d.c. motor drive shaft, by evaluating the current ripple contained in the armature current signal when double or missing ripples occur. The method is characterized by a first step wherein a spectral analysis of the armature current signal concerning the frequency components thereof is carried out. The actual frequency of the of the current ripple contained in the armature current signal, which occurs during operation of the d.c. motor and which has been obtained from the spectral analysis, is monitored to detect sudden changes in said frequency; and, if a sudden change in the actual current ripple frequency is detected, a correction of the current ripple meter reading is carried out.

An actuator position control system for brush-type DC motors. The system includes a sensing inductor, amplifier, central control unit (microprocessor), and motor driver. The system utilizes the differential signal di/dt to indicate the falling edges of commutation spikes in the motor current profile. An inductor is selected as the signal sensor, because voltage drops across the inductor are directly proportional to di/dt. The voltage drop, L(di/dt), across the inductive sensor is input to the amplifier, amplified, and then sent to the microprocessor. The microprocessor reads the output pulses from the amplifier and compares the pulse count to an input command signal. The microprocessor then sends shaft position control information to the motor driver.
