The method includes determining a size of the parity check matrix based on a coding rate and a codeword length; dividing a parity check matrix with the determined size into a predetermined number of blocks; classifying the blocks into blocks corresponding to the information part; arranging permutation matrixes in predetermined blocks from among the blocks classified as the first parity part, and arranging identity matrixes in a full lower triangular form in predetermined blocks from among the blocks classified as the second parity part; and arranging the permutation matrixes in the blocks classified as the information part such that a minimum cycle length is maximized and weight values are irregular on a factor graph of the block LDPC code.

The present invention relates to a data processing apparatus and a data processing apparatus which can improve the tolerance to an error of a code bit of an LDPC code such as burst errors or erasure. An LDPC encoding section 21 carries out LDPC encoding in accordance with a parity check matrix in which a parity matrix which is a portion corresponding to parity bits of an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code has a staircase structure, and outputs an LDPC code. A parity interleaver 23 carries out parity interleave of interleaving the parity bits of the LDPC code outputted from the LDPC encoding section 21 to the positions of other parity bits. The present invention can be applied, for example, to a transmission apparatus which transmits an LDPC code.

The bit permutation is adopted for each of N/M sections each consisting M cyclic blocks such that the constellation blocks each consist of G×M bits from M distinct cyclic blocks of the associated section. A method of data encoding is disclosed. An encoder receives a set of information bits and performs an LDPC encoding operation on the set of information bits to produce a codeword based on a matched lifted LDPC code. The matched lifted LDPC code is based on a commutative lifting group and includes a number of parity bits and a submatrix to determine values of the parity bits. An order of the lifting group (Z) corresponds with a size of the lifting. A determinant of the submatrix is a polynomial of the form: ga+(g0+gL)P, where g0 is the identity element of the group, g0=gL2k, and P is an arbitrary non-zero element of a binary group ring associated to the lifting group.

The method includes grouping information bits into a plurality of groups; determining an order of the plurality of groups to be shortened, based on a ratio of a number of bits to be shortened to a number of bits to be punctured; determining a length of an information word to be obtained by shortening the plurality of groups; shortening the plurality of groups on a group basis in the determined order based on the determined length of the information word; and LDPC-encoding a shortened information word.
