A device for communicating with a mobile interactive satellite service system includes an antenna, a transceiver coupled to the antenna and operable to communicate with a mobile interactive satellite service system, a user input device, an output device, a processor unit, and a network interface. The processor unit is coupled to the user input device, the output device, and the transceiver such that the processor is operable to output received information from the transceiver using the output device, to receive interactive information from the user input device, and to transmit data based on the received interactive information using the transceiver. The network interface is coupled to the processor such that the processor is operable to side load information.

The transceiver (10) includes RF front-end receiver circuitry (20) capable of receiving FM radio broadcast RF signals and converting the FM radio broadcast RF signals to an intermediate frequency. The RF front-end receiver circuitry (20) is configured to receive RF signals at greater than 108 MHz and convert the RF signals to an intermediate frequency. The transceiver (10) also includes signal processing circuitry (40) including at least one DSP core (42) for demodulating intermediate frequency signals provided by the front-end circuitry (20) and for modulating data to be transmitted into baseband modulated data signals, and at least one audio output (46). The transceiver (10) further includes RF transmitter circuitry (30) configured to convert the baseband modulated data signals provided by the at least one DSP core (42) into modulated transmit signals having a frequency greater than 108 MHz for transmission and transmit the modulated transmit signals.

    摘要: A method for deep paging in a communication system employing orthogonal channelizing codes, such as Walsh sequences, of predetermined length m , that does not require a high powered paging channel. The method includes the steps of generating a paging channel message which is combined with a Walsh sequence having a length greater than or equal to 2 m , and transmitting the paging channel message at a data rate of less than 480 bits per second (bps). By transmitting the paging channel message at a low data rate and integrating collected energy over a period longer by a factor on the order of 1000, the message is able to penetrate buildings and other structures or high attenuation environments, thereby allowing one to successfully page a user terminal that is inside such a structure or area. Preferably, the paging channel message is formed using an auxiliary Walsh sequence on the order of 65536 chips in length, and the data rate is less than 10 bps.

    摘要: An apparatus for providing a call interception capability includes a master call intercept (60, 62) database storing records of subscribers of a global mobile satellite communications system (50, 52) targeted for call interception by law enforcement agencies. The intercept coordinator stores in the target database a record of a targeted subscriber, when the visitor location register includes a corresponding record of the targeted subscriber. The intercept coordinator optionally removes a record of a targeted subscriber from the target database, when the visitor location register does not include a record of the targeted subscriber.

    摘要: In a messaging system, message traffic is transmitted on one or more traffic channels (T1, T2 ) and the allocation of groups (S1, S2 ) of receivers to the traffic channels (T1, T2 ) is controlled by information transmitted on a bulletin board channel (BB). A predetermined number of frames before a change in the traffic channel allocation, a countdown value is transmitted in the relevant traffic channel (T1) and the countdown value is decremented in each subsequent frame. Before the countdown value reaches zero, the groups of receivers (S1, S2) retune to the bulletin board channel, receive their new channel allocations and retune to the traffic channel indicated for their group. The frame timings of the different traffic channels (T1, T2 ) are staggered to reduce the peak power required to transmit message bursts in these channels.
