A spreading code generating apparatus carries out M-sequence multiplication and zero value addition of generated orthogonal codes to obtain channel identification codes, and then carries out inverse Fourier transform of the channel identification codes to generate spreading codes and inverse spreading codes. A transmitting apparatus and a receiving apparatus store the spreading codes and the inverse spreading codes generated by the spreading code generating apparatus, respectively, and use a single code respectively selected from the stored codes to carry out spread spectrum communication. With the use of the spreading codes for spreading, the input signal is spread over a wide frequency band with uniform power on the frequency axis. Thus, transmission characteristics are improved, and multiplexing capacity is increased.

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for dynamic allocation of multiple carrier wave channels for multiple access by frequency division multiplexing. The invention provides a number of mobile units with the possibility of flexible data speed and continuous transmission. On the fixed side, the number of transmitters and receivers can be minimized by utilizing broadband receivers which serve a number of mobiles. According to the invention, a wider frequency band is divided into a number of subbands with a modulated carrier wave in each subband. To vary the transmission speed, such a number of subbands is allocated as is needed by each user in order to cover the data clock requirement. Broadband transmitters/receivers handle the transmission over the entire accessible band. Oversampling is preferably carried out in the frequency demultiplexing in order to permit the best sampling time to be selected for the different frequency gaps.

A modular, multi-channel, contiguous output, multiplexer which combines directional filters with the diplexed output of two multi-channel multiplexers, each covering a contiguous frequency band, i.e., one is a low multiplexer and the other a high multiplexer, and one or more quasi-elliptical directional filters after the diplexer output to cover the hole left by the diplexer crossover. A preferred embodiment may essentially consist of: 1) a 12 channel contiguous multiplexer, either a hybrid directional and manifold type multiplexer or a short circuited multiplexer, covering frequencies, e.g., in the range from 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz; 2) a 6 channel contiguous multiplexer spanning frequencies substantially in the range from 3.42 GHz to 3.62 GHz; 3) a diplexer including a 6 section Chebyshev filter, with a passband of frequencies, e.g., in the range of 3.4 to 3.620 GHz, and about 30 dB attenuation at 3.7 GHz, and an 8 section Chebyshev filter passing frequencies, e.g., in the range of 3.7 GHz to 4.2 GHz, and providing 30dB attenuation at 3.62 GHz; and 4) a spur free directional filter including a pair of quasi-elliptical filters that fill the crossover band without any effect on the previous components.

A modular arrangement of directional RF filters provides frequency multiplexing of signal sources at earth stations which are transmitting on two orthogonal polarizations. Each of the modules consist of a pair of 3dB hybrid couplers coupled to each other through identical bandpass filters such that a signal applied to one of two input ports is outputed exclusively through an associated one of two output ports. The passbands of each of the modules are mutually exclusive. The output ports of each module are coupled to an output port of two adjacent modules, and two main outputs are taken from the two outer modules. The signals from the two main outputs are applied to two antennas having mutually orthogonal polarizations. The present invention may also be used as a demultiplexing receiver.
