Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving a client signal, and relate to the field of communications technologies. The method includes: mapping the client signal into channels of a parallel transmission frame, where the parallel transmission frame includes at least two channels; adding an overhead for the channels of the parallel transmission frame after the mapping, to form transmission channels of the parallel transmission frame, where bit rates of the transmission channels of the parallel transmission frame are fixed; and modulating the transmission channels of the parallel transmission frame onto one or more optical carriers in a same optical fiber, and transmitting the optical carrier after the modulation. According to the present invention, a structure of a parallel transmission frame is defined, a client signal, especially a multichannel client signal, is mapped into transmission channels of the parallel transmission frame, and the transmission channels are modulated onto one or more optical carriers in a same optical fiber, which greatly simplifies processing complexity for adapting a multichannel parallel client signal, circumvents an existing processing process of "multiplexing, distribution, and multiplexing", and simplifies a signal adaptation process.

A method and system for determining timers in an High Level Data Link Control (HDLC) Traffic Manager (HTM) state machine are disclosed. According to one aspect, the invention provides for determining a transit delay between two nodes by sending a first packet having a delay measurement byte to a second node that is on a link between the first node and the second node. The method also includes receiving a second packet with the delay measurement byte from the second node. The delay measurement byte sent by the second node is adjusted by the second node to indicate its receipt by the second node. A measured delay value is determined. The measured delay value is the delay between a time of sending the first packet to the second node and receiving the second packet from the second node. The measured delay value is determined by the hardware of the first node. Upon determining the measured delay value, timer values of the HTM state machine are set based on the measured delay value.

A method, apparatus and system for transmitting Ethernet signals in an OTN are provided. The method includes: mapping the Ethernet signals to timeslot units, where a VCG composed of multiple OPUs is divided into the timeslot units; mapping the Ethernet signals into the OPUs, and then mapped into OTUs and output to the OTN for transmitting. In this way, the Ethernet signals are transmitted in the OTN transparently. The apparatus may further include: a first adaptation protocol frame mapping module, a first virtual concatenation module, and a first line terminal module, which convert the Ethernet signals to the OTUs.
