An OPUk multiplexing frame with a bit rate greater than 1.25 Gbps is constructed by using a structure of an OPUO multiplexing frame, so that the structure of the OPUO multiplexing frame can be reused by a structure of the OPUk multiplexing frame, and the structure of the OPUk multiplexing frame is aligned with the structure of the OPUO multiplexing frame. The OPUk multiplexing frame includes an integer multiple of OPUk frames, and a boundary of the OPUk multiplexing frame remains aligned with a boundary of the OPUk frame. In this way, when mapping an OSU frame, an OTN device may map the OSU frame to the OPUk multiplexing frame based on the reused structure of the OPUO multiplexing frame. Embodiments of this application disclose an optical backplane switchover method and an optical communication device. Each optical signal processing board in the optical communication device is connected to at least two optical backplanes, where a first optical backplane is a currently working optical backplane, and a second optical backplane is a spare optical backplane. If a first optical link on the first optical backplane is faulty, a selector switch on the optical signal processing board is controlled to perform switching, to disconnect the optical signal processing board from the first optical backplane and connect the optical signal processing board to the second optical backplane. In other words, when the optical backplane is faulty, switchover may be performed from the faulty optical backplane to the spare optical backplane. In this way, normal transmission of an optical signal is ensured without replacing the entire optical communication device, thereby simplifying maintenance.

In the embodiments of the present invention, the ONU port receives a discovery grant from the OLT, sends a register request to the OLT, and receives, from the OLT, the ONU logical identifier allocated to the ONU port. This provides an efficient ONU registration mechanism, to perform ONU management and maintenance at a granularity of an ONU port, so that the ONU can support more bandwidth channels, and a bandwidth is increased.
