In an oversampled orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) network, the preamble used for time synchronization does not have an ideal autocorrelation function due to guard bands, which degrade the accuracy of symbol timing. Therefore, a zero-correlation-zone (ZCZ) based preamble is used for time synchronization. A cross correlation function (CCF) used for time synchronization is forced to 0 within a certain region around a main lobe. The length of the ZCZ is guaranteed to be larger than a cyclic prefix length of OFDM data symbols synchronization accuracy.

The invention relates to a method for the transmission of data in a multi-carrier system, provided with a frequency band, the carrier frequencies of which are distributed in a sub-carrier band, dividing the frequency band. On the transmission side, dependent on current transmission properties, an adaptive pre-emphasis of the transmission signal is carried out for a part of the carrier frequencies in the sub-carrier band. Said transmitter thus comprises means for determining current transmission properties and means for adaptive pre-emphasis of a part of the carrier frequencies in the sub-carrier band of the transmission signal.

A Fast Fourier Transform module performs a fast Fourier transform on a predetermined number of points of the digital samples to obtain a plurality of transformed samples. The predetermined number exceeds a standard number defined in accordance with the predetermined carrier bandwidth. A sub-carrier collector collects the data from the transformed samples.

The OFDM modulation circuit system includes an IFFT unit (3) and an interpolation unit. Each of the first-stage interpolator and the second-stage interpolator includes first (5 1 ) and second (5 3 ) IIR digital all-pass filters for performing 90° phase shift and first (5 2 ) and second (5 4 ) delay circuits for supplying a signal delay by an amount equal to the signal delay of the first and second IIR digital all-pass filters.
