    摘要: An automatic document feeder for a copier has the position for reading the image of an original fed by the automatic document feeder disposed near the rear edge of the original table of the copier. In this automatic document feeder, essential parts such as a pickup roller, etc., for feeding originals to the reading position of the original table are arranged concentratedly on the rear side of the copier. Therefore, the center of gravity of the automatic document feeder resides near the rear side of the copier. This automatic document feeder is hinged at the rear side of the copier so as to cover the top surface of the original table in an openable and closable manner. Accordingly, the automatic document feeder is opened and closed with respect to the top of the copier, at a pivot which resides on the rear side near the center of gravity thereof.

    摘要: An image scanner arrangement (11) having a scanner (14), a document feeder scanning portion (12) and a flat scanning bed (31). A single white plate (43a) is provided between the document feeder scanning portion and flat bed. Before scanning, the scanner (14) scans the white plate to provide image data for testing. If this image data contains white pixels not less than 90%, a controller (82) determines that a lamp (37a) of a light source (37) of the scanner illuminates appropriately. After confirming that the light source (37) is in a good condition, the scanning starts. The single white plate (37a) is utilized regardless of scanning being performed with the document feeder scanning portion or the flat scanning bed.

    摘要: An image reading method and apparatus are capable of high-quality reading of a transparent original with an optimum light quantity by maintaining both a transmitting light source unit for emitting light for reading the transparent original and a reading scanner of an image reader for receiving the transmitted light at an adequate relative position to keep their optical axes in alignment during scan reading. Such alignment is achieved by providing synchronization in scanning speed by placing either one of the transmitting light source unit and the reading scanner at an arbitrary selected position, scanning the proximity of the selected position with the other, determining a light quantity distribution, determining a synchronous position from the distribution, carrying out such synchronous position detection at two or more distinct positions, and calculating the scanning speed ratio of the transmitting light source unit to the reading scanner from the result. Alternatively, alignment is achieved by carrying out similar synchronous position detection, determining the relative spacing between the base points of said transmitting light source and said reading scanner from the distances from the respective base points to the synchronous position, and matching the scan start positions of the transmitting light source unit and the reading scanner in accordance with the relative spacing.
