The system includes: a light source, a spatial light modulator, a transport system for transporting a substrate on a carrier allowing the spatial light modulator to form an image on the substrate; a first encoder (26) that attaches to the carrier and senses its movement; a second encoder (36) attached to the drive circuit (34) of the transport system to sense operation of the drive circuit (34); a first circuit (20) that receives the information from the first encoder and adjusts operation of the spatial light modulator; and a second circuit (30) that receives the signal from the second encoder and adjusts operation of the drive circuit to coordinate movement of the substrate and the image to avoid artifacts. The method for establishing this system is also disclosed.

A color printer provided with ink jet heads comprising three trains of nozzle holes for respectively discharging different colored ink, each train of nozzle holes composed of a plurality of nozzle holes which are arranged at intervals of three pitches in the auxiliary scanning direction, and disposed at equal intervals in the main scanning direction while shifting every one pitch in the auxiliary scanning direction wherein different colored inks are discharged and sequentially superimposed over one another on a recording sheet to synthesize colors. The color printer further comprises control means for controlling the ink jet heads by discharging only one colored ink through the nozzle holes of any one of the three trains to make a print on the recording sheet as the first main scanning, then discharging ink through the nozzle holes of said train and another train adjacent to said train of nozzle holes to make a print as the scanned main scanning while they are shifted by one pitch in the auxiliary scanning direction, and thereafter discharging ink through the nozzle holes of the three trains to make a print as the next main scanning while they are shifted by one pitch in the auxiliary scanning direction, so as to make a print which is regular in sequence of superimposition of colors.

The second nonlinear determines "1" or "0" for a processing target pixel, in which the result of the first nonlinear process is "P," based on input pixel signals of pixels around the processing target pixel. The process of calculating a probability calculates a probability J(x) that the result of the first nonlinear process is "1," or the result of the first nonlinear process is "P" and the result of the second nonlinear process is "1".

A method and apparatus for printing multiple simultaneous images onto a photosensitive media comprises the steps of imaging light from a light source through an optics assembly (75) to a polarization beamsplitter (80). The polarization beamsplitter (80) produces light having a first polarized state and light having a second polarized state. The first polarized light is directed to a first spatial light modulator (90). The first spatial light modulator is addressed with a first signal to create a first modulated light beam, which is imaged through a print lens assembly onto the photosensitive media. A second polarized light is directed to a second spatial light modulator (95). The second spatial light modulator is addressed with a second signal to create a second modulated light beam, which is imaged through the print lens onto the photosensitive media. The first modulated light beam and the second modulated light beam create at least two simultaneous images on the photosensitive media.
