摘要: A system and method for correlating alarms from a plurality of network elements (Nes) are provided to unambiguously associate separate alarms to one another. This is accomplished by a method where a fault identifier FID is generated by a serving NE (3) who discovered the faulty hardware or software unit. The serving NE signals its lost or degraded service to a client NE (2) in a traffic message (15) and appends the generated FID to the traffic message. The client NE extracts the FID from the traffic message and appends it to a service alarm which the NE sends to a network management system (1). The serving NE also generates an alarm message (13) and provides it with same FID. The serving NE sends the alarm message and its FID to the network management system. The service alarm and the alarm message received by the network management system will thus contain the same FID. In the management system the FID is used to correlate the two alarms with one another.

摘要: There is described a method of operating a fault management system for an access network which forms part of a public telecommunications network. In the access network, terminating lines in the form of pairs of copper wires extend from a local switch (10) through a series of nodes to terminal equipment provided for user of the network. The fault management system includes a test head (104) and an access network management system (102). Each night, the test head (104) performs a series of test on each of the terminating lines. The results of the test are transmitted to the access network management (102). The test results are then converted into circuit scores, each of which is indicative of the operational quality of the tested circuit. For each node, the circuit scores of the tested circuits passing through the node are combined to produce a node score which is indicative of the operational quality of the node. In order to identify the node having the worst operational quality and therefore most in need of investigation, the nodes are ranked in accordance with their node scores.

摘要: Modern switching systems known in prior art may be provided with a high level of internal dependability by redundantly supplying key internal components; however, said precautionary measures generally are of little use in the event of massive external influences (e.g. natural disasters, terrorist attacks, war-related effects, etc.) According to the invention, a 1:1 redundancy is provided, an identical clone being assigned to each switching system that is to be protected as a redundant partner comprising identical hardware, software, and database. The transfer is done in a fast, secure, and automatic manner by a superimposed, real-time capable monitor which establishes communication to the switching systems that are arranged in pairs. The transfer to the redundant switching system is done with the aid of the network management and the central controllers of the two switching systems.

摘要: In a computer network including a plurality of network elements, a network management architecture including a plurality of agents, each of the agents corresponding to a different one of the network elements, and a plurality of device components, each of the device components modeling at least one aspect of one of the network elements, the aspect being either of a physical and a functional characteristic of the network element, where each of the agents includes a plurality of the device components, and where at least of the two device components within at least one of the agents are logically interconnected, each logical interconnection corresponding to either of a physical and a functional interconnection found within or between any of the network elements.
