Provided is a method for manufacturing geological gradation layer (30) featuring disaster prevention and ecologic function, which uses on-site earth or gradation materials commonly adopted in road construction, including aggregates, soils, gravels, or a mixture of water permeable concrete, and most importantly, added with uniquely arranged hollow bodies (31), all constituents being mixed and laid on soil stratum (20), and subjected to ramming, to form an ecological gradation layer (30). The ecological gradation layer (30) provides an effect of supporting and also provides the functions of water storage, water preservation, and improving earth, whereby earth microorganisms and earth protozoa may establish a beneficial survival environment in earth, making the gradation layer exhibiting the characteristics of high water content and prompting breeding of microorganisms. When the atmosphere gets hot, water is released from the soil as vapor to alleviate the heat island effect and when rainwater precipitates, the rainwater can be stored for use in draughts.

In addition to the water permeability of the base material, the paving layer also provide the functions of absorbing water, storing water, and retaining water, so as to reduce the likelihood of occurrence of water accumulation on the surface flooding and also to allow water to be greatly retained in the interior of the paving layer, whereby water vapor can be released from the interior to alleviate heat island effect in case of high temperature of the atmosphere.

The paving system has a perforated pavement (1) covering a deep substrate of mainly hard nodules or shells, the whole being surrounded by impervious walls (5) to provide temporary storage in the interstices for chemical spillage or flood water, wherein liquids may be chemically treated or biologically decomposed, and whence the rate of outflow may be regulated. The pavement may consist of preformed pavings of brick, concrete or other material, laid edge to edge without mortar or cement. These pavings may be perforated or notched to allow liquids to run down into the substrate. The pavings are laid on a screen (2, 3) which filters out solid particles to stop the system clogging. This system allows biological substances to grow, or be introduced with or without additional nutrients, or chemical treatments to be introduced, from above, when needed. The whole pavement system can be lifted out for cleaning or substitution, and relaid as new.

This invention provides a modular ducting section and a networked utilities ducting system and rain and road water management system formed from two or more modular ducting sections laying end-to-end. Each modular ducting section comprises open-topped utility channels for carrying utility service supply lines such as electricity, gas, water, or communications, an open-topped catchment channel for carrying rain water captured from a building structure or garden, and a supply channel for supplying an end user with utility services via a supply line, while also allowing the end user to feed an end-user generated utility supply back into the corresponding utility service supply line via a return line. Each modular ducting section further comprises a road water runoff flange and a main channel cover, which when combined, form a curb-side structure that functions to keep any contaminated road water from the reusable rain water collected in the catchment channel.
