The first surface provides a tacky surface between the posts. The second surface (22) provides for adhering the self mating adhesive fastener to a substrate. Additionally disclosed are articles which incorporate the self mating adhesive fastener element and methods for manufacturing and using the self mating adhesive fastener element.

The surface fastener tape (1) is stored in superposed form, such as in roll or in stack, and can be cut into individual surface fastener pieces (2) for use as it is demanded. In production, molten resin is continuously injected to the die wheel (12) from an injection nozzle (16) to mold the continuous surface fastener tape (1), and the adhesive layer (6) is formed on the surface fastener tape (1) using an adhesive-agent applicator (19).

A method is also described for adjusting the lengths of connecting cords (22) (28) in order to establish and maintain the shape of a flexible surface (12) and includes the steps of fabricating a bead (30) with holes (34), inserting cords (22) (28) through the holes (34), attaching a clamp (38) to a cord (28) whose length is to be adjusted, inserting shims (40) between the bead (30) and clamp (38) so as to position the bead (30), introducing adhesive into the holes (34), and removing the clamp (38) and shims (40).

A fixing device is disclosed for use on hard surfaces such as exterior walls, wood, glass or metal for supporting elements, particularly elongate elements, against such surfaces. The fixing device comprises in combination a holding member, for example a plastics plant tie (35, 36) cable grip or pipe εiasp, and a portion of an adhesive composition of putty consistency (41). The holding member has a cup portion (34) which defines a socket (32). The composition is a filled hardenable adhesive composition including an adhesive component such as epoxide resin and a hardener component such as a mercaptan/amine-accelerated polyamide hardener which are separately present in the composition in pre-determined proportions such that the composition is workable by hand to mix the components and activate a hardening reaction. In use, a portion of the composition may be separated from a ribbon and mixed between the fingers to form a pellet (41) which is pressed into the socket (32) of the holding member to fill the socket, the device then being pressed onto a hard surface (42) and time allowed for the composition to become rock hard and bond to the surface.
