摘要: A pneumatic valve (10) for use in a pneumatic seat (12) of a vehicle is disclosed. The pneumatic valve includes an upper housing (32) and a lower housing (38). The lower housing is slidably received within the upper housing. The lower housing has an upper surface (78) and a lower surface (79). The lower surface has an inlet stem (88), a seat air inlet/outlet stem (90), and at least a first exhaust port (94). The pneumatic valve also includes an elongate poppet (108) slidably mounted within the seat air inlet/outlet port on a first spring (106) to control air flow through the seat air inlet/outlet port. The poppet has an enlarged head portion (110) located at one end and a cam projection (113) located at the other end. A slide member (34) is supported on the upper surface of the lower housing for reciprocating movement relative to the housing to selectively control air flow therethrough. The slide member has an upper surface and a lower surface. The lower surface of the slide member has a cammed portion (68) to selectively and automatically permit rapid exhaustion of air from the seat air inlet/outlet port. The cam portion includes a detent notch (70) to selectively lock the slide member into continuous fluid communication with the seat air inlet/outlet port and the exhaust port to permit air to escape therethrough.

摘要: A vehicle seat having a bladder with more than two inflatable chambers and an integral control flap, all of one piece, integral construction. To maximize inflatable volume of each chamber, each chamber preferably has a sidewall portion that is generally perpendicular. The control flap has passages in communication with the chambers and valving for selectively controlling inflation of the chambers. Valving preferably includes pinch valves having a generally T-shaped body with legs that pinch passages in the control flap to retain gas in a chamber and selectively inflate or deflate the chamber. The bladder is connected to a gas supply having a pump in communication with a reservoir for storing a charge of pressurized gas in the reservoir so that the pump need not immediately operate when gas is needed to inflate a chamber. To maintain a charge of gas in the reservoir, the gas supply preferably includes a pressure switch for energizing the pump when the reservoir pressure drops below a lower threshold and deenergizing the pump when pressure rises above an upper threshold. A preferred bladder has a chamber for cushioning the thighs of a seat occupant, a chamber for cushioning the buttocks and can have a chamber for providing lumbar support. A bladder of this invention can be assembled as part of a motorcycle seat having a bladder for the driver and a bladder for the passenger. The bladder also can be used in automotive and off road vehicle seating applications.

摘要: A pressure relief support system (10) utilizes a self-adjusting approach to maintaining generally constant pressure in fluid support bladders (70-76). A constant force, such as from a constant force linear spring (106, 108) or from a counterweight system (238), is applied directed to a fluid support bladder (182) or to a reservoir in fluid communication with such bladder. Plural self-adjusting arrangements may be provided in a single device for fabricating a support body with sectionalized support. Such arrangements may be incorporated into mattress support systems (68) or into seating arrangements (538) or other alternative uses. By appropriately selecting system components, such as the amount of the constant force applied, the original volume of fluid to which the force is applied, and the reservoir size, pressure dispersion for a patient or supported object of any type may be controlled at a predetermined generally constant point.

摘要: A seat weight sensor (10) incorporates a fluid filled bladder (12) placed in series with the load path in the seat (3), whereby a load applied to and distributed across the bladder (12) increases the pressure of the fluid therein. The pressure of the fluid is measured by a pressure sensor (20) and is substantially proportional to the magnitude of the applied load, and substantially inversely proportional to the supported area of the bladder (12). The output signal is substantially linear with respect to weight. Preferably, the amount of fluid in the bladder should be less than the capacity of the bladder when the bladder is unloaded. The seat weight sensor (10) is incorporated into an accupant restraint system (7) for controlling the safety restraint system responsive to the weight of the occupant (5).
