Disclosed is a computer-based electronic checklist system that automatically generates a single electronic checklist upon the detection of two or more control system faults. The checklist contains a plurality of notes to be read by, and action items to be performed by, the operator. The system combines a set of predefined action items for each fault and executes a set of conditional rules that modify the action items to reflect the current state of the control system. The system then executes a set of priority rules to determine the correct order in which the action items of the checklist are to be performed. Once the correct order of the action items is determined, the system executes a set of conflict rules to remove any conflicting or redundant action items in order to provide the operator with a single electronic checklist that is customized to the control system's current operating condition.

The invention relates to a method for designing and/or visualizing at least one roll/felt pair in a paper or carton making machine press, wherein initially a press configuration is selected from quantities provided by a computer system taking into account the specific application and the desired paper or carton quality. In connection thereto, one of the presses of the respective press configuration is selected, wherein relevant output machines and roll parameters of the selected presses are read from a standard data base and displayed. Calculation and display of results of instantaneous drain operation of the selected press is then performed, wherein reference is made to a felt parameter read step from the standard data bank which takes place in the background. The parameters of the machines and rolls of each respective press are modified in order to design the roll/felt pair, wherein the modified drain operation of the respective roll /felt pair is continuously re-calculated and at least partially displayed as a trend. Calculation and display occurs in such a way that it is possible to visualize the results of calculations simultaneously by switching at will from roll analysis to felt analysis and fields are provided in each result display for renewed modification and indications concerning machine, roll and felt parameters.

In addition, a pictorial representation of the radiation beams (1026) incident on a particular target is provided. A graphic representation of field shape (1030) is provided; the graphics change as treatment progresses. Finally, manipulation of graphics permits editing of treatment information, while allowing immediate feedback as to the result of the change.

A method and apparatus for converting a set of functions of any software system that does modeling into a corresponding set of parametric functions that, when called, generate not only a resulting model, but also a dependency graph representation of the model. The dependency graph can include directed functions and non-directed constraint relationships, and is used when a change is made to the model so that only affected portions of the model are reevaluated. The dependency graph can be visually presented to a user, and can be created or edited through a visual programming environment. The graph can be modified to change either input values to the model, or the graph elements that represent the functions used in creating the model. When changes to the dependency graph are made, it can be reevaluated to incorporate the changes into the model. When the visual programming environment is used to modify the graph, the environment calls the parametric set of functions. The set of parametric functions is generated by creating wrappers in a standard programming language around the functions of the software system. The dependency graph can also be used to generate a computer program in a standard language that, when executed on the software system, regenerates the model as well as the dependency representation. The computer program can also be edited and then executed on the software system to generate a modified version of the model.

A printing system in which different types of printing media are each selectively used for printing, which makes it easy for the user to check the type of printing medium set in a printer, to change the printing medium set in the printer to another type of printing media, and to set printer setup values for each printing medium. The printing system includes a printer (1) and at least one host computer (3). Different types of form sheets are set in the sheet paths of the printer (1). From sheet data is registered in a memory of the printer (1). The form sheet data contains the names and size values of the form sheets, sheet paths, presence or absence of a desired form sheet, and the like. A printer checker (31) of the computer (3) fetches form sheet data from the printer (1), and loads it into a register (33) of the computer. A printer customizer (35) has the functions to push the form sheet data out of the register (33) and visually present it on a monitor screen (25), to send new form sheet data to the printer (1) and register it in the memory of the printer, and to recognize a form sheet selected by the user as a form sheet to be used for printing and send information on the selected form sheet to the printer (1).
