In the locking device consisting of a locking mechanism (20) and a striker (70), the locking mechanism (20) has a base plate (22), a hook (30), a pole (46), a release lever (52), a drive member (60), a lock spring (56), and a drive spring (66). The hook (30) forms a lock state for clamping the striker or an unlock state by its rotation. The pole (46) is supported rotatably on a supporting shaft (50) as a first shaft and rotates to a position where it can engage with the hook. The release lever (52) is supported rotatably by a supporting shaft (58) as a second shaft and rotates the pole from an engaging permitting position in the non-engaging direction by receiving an unlocking operation force. The drive member (60) is supported rotatably on the supporting shaft (50) and presses the hook in a locked state further in the locking direction. The supporting shaft (58) is set on the side remote from the supporting shaft (50) when viewed from the input point of operating force to the release lever.

    The present invention has the following structure.
    A locking device includes a locking mechanism (20) and a striker (70). The locking mechanism (20) has a base plate (22), a hook (30), a pawl (46), a release lever (52), a thrust member (60), a locking spring (56) and a thrust spring (66). The hook (30), when rotated, is capable of forming a locked condition in which the striker is held or an unlocked condition. The pawl (46) is rotatably supported via a support shaft (50) as a first shaft and is capable of rotating to a position in which the pawl can engage the hook. The release lever (52) is rotatably supported via a support shaft (58) as a second shaft. The release lever, when applied with a manipulation force for unlocking, is capable of rotating the pawl from the engageable position in a non-engaging direction. The thrust member (60) is rotatably supported via the support shaft (50) and is capable of further pressing the hook in the locked condition toward a locking direction. Further, the support shaft (58) is positioned beyond the support shaft (50) as viewed from an input point of the manipulation force to the release lever.
