Various improvements are disclosed including a new mechanism for positioning wedge shaped arcuate segments between the door and the sub body, a retainer mechanism for guiding movement of cross bars, a split hinge adjustment mechanism for adjusting planarity and concentricity between the closure door and the sub body, an increased annular wall body thickness region surrounding the sealing surface for reducing warpage during welding, a pressure lock rod member which also engages a combination of cross bars and a crank for driving the cross bars, and a pry bar that can facilitate better manually operated leveraging of the closure door.

A closing ring for a container and lid combination for securing the lid to the container includes a ring body (24) having first and second free ends (37, 38) to be drawn together in order to secure the lid to the container. A link clevis (32) and a lever clevis (34) are welded to the free ends. A link (33) is pivotally connected to the link clevis. A lever (35) is pivotally connected to the lever clevis. The linkage arrangement is completed by connecting the link to the lever at a third pivot connection (39a). A movable locking projection (36) is assembled to the lever clevis for engaging the lever during an opening attempt wherein the engaging prevents the opening of the ring body until the movable locking projection is moved out of its engaging position relative to the lever.

A fixture and method is provided for in vitro storage of a cornea. The fixture includes a platform having a corneal-sceral rim receiving surface, a clamp having a mating surface for the cornel-scleral rim and handles. A locking mechanism is provided to secure a donor cornea between the clamp and platform. The combination cornea, platform and clamp are placed in a storage unit having a fluid preservation media. In one embodiment, the storage unit includes a vial having an optically clear closed end and an opened end. A lid is secured to the open end of the vial and engages the handles in order to stabilize the clamped cornea within the vial.
