The invention concerns a support element (1) for a light-alloy motor-vehicle body, the support element comprising two shell-shaped light-alloy castings (2, 3) which together form a support element (1) similar in design to a hollow-section girder. The invention calls for the girder structure to be reinforced by stiffening ribs (10, 11) integral with the inside walls of the two castings (2, 3) and spaced at intervals along the inside walls. The stiffening ribs (10, 11) are designed as narrow, flat webs projecting out, narrowing to the top edge of the web, into the space inside the support element (1) and extending over most of the inside perimeter of the hollow-section structure, at right angles to the longitudinal direction (line 9) in which the support element (1) runs. The invention thus provides an inexpensive and easy-to-produce support element which does not collapse, and which thus maintains its rigidity under high loads, in particular the loads experienced in a collision between two vehicles.
