This objective is met by a construction comprising engagement means for association with a rotatable member, said engagement means being a loop (13) or noose of a flexible material formed from or faced with a friction material, the loop or noose being adapted to pass around said rotatable member (7) from an anchor point (12) to a rotatable spindle (9) and to which the free end of the loop or noose is secured, said spindle being adapted for location in relation to said rotatable member such that rotation of said spindle in one direction puts said loop or noose in a first condition where the loop or noose is caused to slacken to allow free rotation of the rotatable member and rotation of said spindle in the opposite directon puts said loop or noose in a second condition, and in which second condition immediately the said rotatable member attempts to rotate in the opposite direction the said loop or noose can self tighten on said rotatable member to prevent that opposite rotation and there being means (22-32) selectively activatable to rotate said spindle in the required direction.

The braking power is increased (case B) when the driving engine is switched off (MO = 0) and neither the brake pedal (BLS = 0) nor the parking brake (FB = 0) are actuated, or when the engine is switched on (MO = 1) and neither brake pedal actuation (BLS = 0) nor starting moment (AM = 0) are detected. The braking power is reduced (case C) when the engine is switched off (MO = 0), the brake pedal is not actuated (BLS = 0) and the parking brake is applied (FB = 1) or when the engine is switched on (MO = 1) and a starting moment is sensed (AM = 1). When the vehicle speed exceeds the threshold value (VREF = 1) and/or the circuit breaker is actuated (EAS = 0), the retaining system is switched off.     摘要: A system and method for controlling an automatic transmission in a vehicle drive train including an engine (10), the automatic transmission (16) and a fluid coupling (12) for transmitting the rotation of the engine to the transmission. The transmission includes a clutch (C1) applied when a forward running range is selected; a second one-way clutch (F2) which is applied, when the first clutch (C1) is applied, to establish a forward 1st speed; and a brake (B1) for locking the one-way clutch (F2), when applied, to block the reverse rotation of the output shaft of the transmission (16). A first hydraulic servo (C-1) receives a first oil pressure for applying the first clutch (C1) and a second hydraulic servo (B-1) receives a second oil pressure for applying the brake (B1). When a forward running range is selected, with the vehicle stopped, the engine idling and a foot brake engaged, the oil pressure of the first hydraulic servo (C-1) is lowered from the oil pressure at the 1st speed whereas the oil pressure of the second hydraulic servo (B-1) is raised to a modulated pressure. The modulated pressure is set to generate, against the reverse force on the vehicle facing up an incline, a resistance corresponding to the forward driving force generated when the engine is idling in 1st speed.
