The present invention includes parking brake interlocking means being installed on a pedal assembly of a main brake wherein the parking brake interlocking means is interlocked with a brake pedal so as for the parking brake to be operated in a brake pedal operation rear range beyond a brake pedal operation range during a normal drive or traveling, locking means for preventing the interlocking means from being returned when the parking brake is operated, and locking control means for releasing the locking of the locking means when an accelerator pedal is operated. Therefore, the present invention has advantages of improving stability and convenience by interlocking a parking brake which is an auxiliary brake with a main brake by a brake pedal, substituting the parking brake for the main brake by just the brake pedal when a main brake body is critically damaged, and operating and releasing the parking brake by just the brake pedal and an accelerator pedal in a so-called stop frequent section.

In order to retain a vehicle when starting uphill, vehicle speed (VREF), brake pedal actuation (BLS), starting moment (AM), state of operation of the vehicle engine (MO), actuation of a parking brake (FB) and actuation of the retaining system (EAS) are detected. When the retaining system is activated and the vehicle speed lies below a threshold value (VREF = 0), the braking power or pressure is maintained (case A) if the brake pedal is actuated and no starting moment is sensed. The braking power is increased (case B) when the driving engine is switched off (MO = 0) and neither the brake pedal (BLS = 0) nor the parking brake (FB = 0) are actuated, or when the engine is switched on (MO = 1) and neither brake pedal actuation (BLS = 0) nor starting moment (AM = 0) are detected. The braking power is reduced (case C) when the engine is switched off (MO = 0), the brake pedal is not actuated (BLS = 0) and the parking brake is applied (FB = 1) or when the engine is switched on (MO = 1) and a starting moment is sensed (AM = 1). When the vehicle speed exceeds the threshold value (VREF = 1) and/or the circuit breaker is actuated (EAS = 0), the retaining system is switched off. A warning signal (WN) may be triggered by means of a door contact (Tk) and/or seat contact (Sk).

A system and method for controlling an automatic transmission in a vehicle drive train including an engine (10), the automatic transmission (16) and a fluid coupling (12) for transmitting the rotation of the engine to the transmission. The transmission includes a clutch (C1) applied when a forward running range is selected; a second one-way clutch (F2) which is applied, when the first clutch (C1) is applied, to establish a forward 1st speed; and a brake (B1) for locking the one-way clutch (F2), when applied, to block the reverse rotation of the output shaft of the transmission (16). A first hydraulic servo (C-1) receives a first oil pressure for applying the first clutch (C1) and a second hydraulic servo (B-1) receives a second oil pressure for applying the brake (B1). When a forward running range is selected, with the vehicle stopped, the engine idling and a foot brake engaged, the oil pressure of the first hydraulic servo (C-1) is lowered from the oil pressure at the 1st speed whereas the oil pressure of the second hydraulic servo (B-1) is raised to a modulated pressure. The modulated pressure is set to generate, against the reverse force on the vehicle facing up an incline, a resistance corresponding to the forward driving force generated when the engine is idling in 1st speed.
