The present invention is directed to a system and method for conducting a more fair race around an oval track by having runners in each lane run equal arc angles. Such a configuration eliminates the disproportionate effect of centrifugal force on competitors running in different lanes. Embodiments of the invention provide for the addition of a straight section to a standard oval track extending from a curved section perpendicular to the existing straightaway section. Runners in each lane start at staggered locations on the straight section. The staggered starting locations are chosen such that each runner travels an equal distance from the starting location to a common finish line. A single straight section may be employed to conduct races covering the entire length and half the length of the oval track or two straight sections may be employed to allow finishes for both races at a common finish line.

Disclosed are surfacing materials formed from a suitable angular or sub-angular base sand mixture that is coated with a polymer or polymer/oil blend and then combined with short fibers to produce the final surfacing composition. The polymers and polymer/oil blends are selected to reduce temperature dependent viscosity variations in the surfacing materials, thereby providing a more consistent 'going' for horses or other livestock being worked on these surfacing materials. Also disclosed are methods of manufacturing such surfacing compositions and methods of using such surfacing compositions in constructing riding venues including, for example, arenas and tracks.

The invention relates to a coating for an intravascular implant that prevents hyperproliferative vascular disease after a mechanical injury, such as angioplasty. The coating includes first and second agents, with the first agent acting on a calcium independent cellular pathway and the second agent acting on a calcium dependent cellular pathway. In an exemplary embodiment, the first agent is rapamycin and the second agent is cyclosporine A. The agents can be incorporated in a polymeric agent and can be applied either directly to the implant or on top of a primer layer placed on the implant. A top coat can be applied to the therapeutic coating, if desired.

Multiple breakaway mechanisms can be provided. Upper ends of the uprights are secured to the rail assembly and in the event of an upright breaking away at its lower end it can rotate about a horizontal axis.
