摘要： Counter-current contacting devices and distillation col- ums of the rotating cone type which include a number of means which increase the efficiencies and/or increase the pressure differential across the devices or columns are disclosed. Systems for reducing the alcohol content of an alcohol containing beverage or a wine, stripping aroma and/or flavour from a fruit juice or desulphuring a liquid containing dissolved sulphur dioxide which include the devices and columns of the invention are also described. Methods of distilling, fractionally distilling and/or stripping a selected volatile component or components from a liquid which utilise the devices and columns of the invention are included in the disclosure.

摘要： Apparatus for effecting mass transfer between two fluid phases the first of which is a liquid, which apparatus comprises (a) an element (9) which is permeable to the fluids, which has pores which present a tortuous path to the fluids, and which is rotatable about an axis such that the fluids, are subjected to a mean acceleration of at least 300 m sec- 2 as they flow through the pores with the first fluid flowing radially outwards away from the said axis, (b) means for charging the fluids to the permeable element and (c) at least means for discharging one of the fluids or a derivative thereof from the permeable element, characterised in that the permeable element comprises strands, fibres, fibrils or filaments or mixtures thereof. The apparatus may be used in absorption, distillation or extraction processes.

摘要： A process is described for separating a component of a solution or of a liquid mixture by evaporation which comprises feeding said solution or mixture to a heated rotating ..plate so as to convert a part of said solution or mixture to vapour form and condensing at least a part of said evolved vapour on an adjacent relatively cool rotating plate. Devices for use in the process are described. Weak aqueous caustic soda solutions may be concentrated and saline water may be purified by the process of the present invention.

摘要： In a centrifugal mass transfer device comprising a rotary, annular permeable element, annular plates are mounted adjacent the radially inner or outer face of the permeable element and gaseous or liquid material flowing from the permeable element across one surface of the annular plates is cooled or heated by a heat exchange fluid on the opposite surface of the plates. In this way condenser or vaporised material is returned to the permeable element.
