    摘要: Apparatus for electrostatically coating an elongated object of indefinite length which is aligned with the straight line path of the elongated object in a continuous manufacturing and finishing process. Electrostatic applicators are mounted to direct the coating into a substantially closed chamber at a portion of the elongated object passing therethrough. To substantially eliminate the explosive hazard occasioned by the use of an organic solvent-based coating material in the presence of electrical equipment, a combustibly inert atmosphere is maintained in the chamber and in an exhaust system leading therefrom. To maintain the electrostatic field, the coating chamber and associated coating equipment must be electrically isolated from ground.

When the path (X-X) of workpiece movement is horizontal, a booster charging member (8) is provided below that path to deflect the medium towards the workpiece. The booster (8) is supplied with a voltage of the same magnitude as that of the lower charging member (7). The polarity of the voltage supply to the booster (8) may be the same as or opposite to that of the lower charging member (7).

    摘要: A system (10) for detecting fire in a powder spray booth having a spray gun (12) for depositing powder onto products (18) moving through the booth includes a switch (62) mounted to the spray gun (12) which is operatively connected to a control system (42) which operates the booth and controls the supply of powder to the spray guns (12). A spring biases (80) the switch toward an open, operating position in which a signal is sent to the control system (42) to shut down the booth operation and powder supply. Under normal operating conditions, the spring force is overcome by a switch closure mechanism which comprises a fixed rod (52), and a movable rod (72) mounted to the switch (62) which is pulled toward the fixed rod to close the switch by a burnable filament (82) extending between the rods and positioned in the path of the powder discharged from the spray gun (12). If a fire starts in the booth, the burnable filament (82) is imme­diately destroyed and releases the movable rod (72) so that the spring (80) is permitted to move the switch (62) to the open position. In turn, the switch (62) sends a signal to the control system (42) to shut down the supply of powder to the spray guns (12) to extinguish the fire.
