A roller leveler is provided in which, even when the number of leveling rolls is relatively small, a pitch of the leveling rolls arranged in a zigzag manner in the carrying direction of a steel plate is capable of being made substantially uniform with a relatively simple structure when the pitch of the leveling rolls used for flattening the steel plate is changed. The roller leveler 1 is provided with a first roll group 2 having first leveling rolls 4 through 7 arranged with a pitch "P1" in the carrying direction of a steel plate, a second roll group 3 having five pieces of second leveling rolls 9 through 13 which are arranged with the pitch "P1" in the carrying direction of the steel plate and are disposed in a zigzag manner with respect to the first leveling rolls 4 through 7, a first retract mechanism 29 for making the first leveling rolls 5 and 6 retract from the pass line "PL", and second retract mechanisms 32 and 33 for making the second leveling rolls 9, 10, 12 and 13 retract from the pass line "PL".
