A process in which a self-sealing pneumatic tire consisting of a pneumatic tire after vulcanization molding furnished with a sealant layer being uniform without thickness irregularity and a cover sheet layer therefore is produced without the use of an organic solvent and expensive apparatus; and an apparatus therefore. The process is characterized by sequentially performing the operations of injecting a viscous sealant material onto the internal surface of a pneumatic tire (T) after vulcanization molding; diffusing the sealant material into a sheet form by centrifugal force while rotating the pneumatic tire (T) around the tire axis to thereby form a sealant layer (11); injecting a cover material of uncured rubber material or resin material onto the inside surface of the sealant layer (11); diffusing the cover material into a sheet form by centrifugal force while rotating the pneumatic tire (T) around the tire axis to thereby form a cover sheet layer (12); and irradiating the cover sheet layer (12) with electron beams, infrared rays, ultraviolet rays or ultrasonic waves to thereby harden the same.

The invention relates to apparatus for helically winding pipes from tube forming plastics strip comprising a single fixed rigid loop (20) formed from a length of metal band, wherein the inner surface of the loop forms a spiral path along which the strip is directed when helically wound, strip guide means (26) for guiding the strip into the path of the loop (20), and driven roller means (23, 24) for driving the strip around the spiral path and for joining together adjacent edges of adjacent convolutions of the strip, whereby druring the helical winding process, the strip is driven around the spiral path in frictional engagement with the loop inner surface, maintaining intimate contact therewith, to thereby form the pipe.

In a tube (2), of which an inner space is divided by a partition (20) into an air chamber (3) adapted to be filled with air and a seal agent chamber (7) adapted to be filled with a seal agent (8), a ratio R (R = B/A) of a cross-sectional area B of the tube (2), which is filled with air to expand, to a cross-sectional area A of the tube (2), which is received in a tire (1) while deflated, is set from 100 % to 110 % to thereby limit a tension of the partition (20) at the time of expansion of the tube (2) to a low level. Even when the partition (20) of the tube (2) is subjected to a puncture b, little air in the air chamber (3) will enter the seal agent chamber (7) to prevent deterioration of the sealing performance of seal agent (8) due to its mixing with air since the partition (20) subjected to only a small tension is less liable to contract toward the air chamber (3).

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for manufacturing ribbed pipes, wherein a formable mass in a plastic state is extruded into a substantially cylindrical forming space of a corrugator (12), said forming space being delimited by forming means, i.e. moulds (17), movable in the production direction of the apparatus and having grooves on the inner surface thereof for forming rib flanges (10), and a stationary kernel (16) forming the inner surface of the pipe, and wherein the mass formed as a pipe (18) in the forming space is cooled. In accordance with the invention, the ribbed pipe (18) is cooled from the inner surface of the pipe with the kernel (16) which extends an essential length externally of the forming space constituted by the forming means (17) of the corrugator (12).
