L'invention concerne une suspension à quadrilatère déformable dont le principe permet d'optimiser le comportement anti-plongée. La suspension est constituée d'un pivot de fourche (1) et d'une fourche (3) reliés par deux éléments de liaison (2) et (4) dont les longueurs sont au moins deux fois supérieures à l'entre-axe [CD] de leurs liaisons avec la fourche (3). Cette géométrie limite le déplacement du Centre Instantané de Rotation (CIR) de la fourche (3) par rapport au pivot de fourche (1) lors du fonctionnement de la suspension, ce qui permet d'optimiser son comportement anti-plongée. De plus, la géométrie allongée du quadrilatère déformable imposée par la longueur relative des éléments de liaison (2) et (4) permet l'intégration de l'amortisseur au sein du quadrilatère déformable, évitant les inconvénients engendrés par son déport éventuel. L'invention est particulièrement adaptée pour la réalisation des suspensions avant de cycles équipés d'une unique roue avant directrice.

The spacing between attachments (3 & 4) is double that between (5 & 6) and the centre distance between the axle and its link attachment points is the same as the pivotal length of links (1 & 2). The geometry of said arrangement constrains the movement of the axle/wheel rectilinearly between the chassis attachment points and the angular displacement of the axle support link focuses to an axis (10), exhibiting slight rectilinear displacement.

The wheel (9) is mounted on the said prolongation (110) at the wheel-carrying element (10), and the wheel axle (8) is located on an ideal straight line (13) passing through the pivotal connections (211, 212) of the two swinging arms (11, 12) to the wheel-carrying element (10), or slightly above or below the said straight line (13). The invention relates to a suspension system for a vehicle road wheel and to vehicles equipped with the suspension system. In particular, the invention provides a road wheel suspension system comprising two arms (13,14) mounted for oscillatory motion on respective fulcra (11,12) on a support structure (10) formed by the vehicle chassis or some part of the vehicle body, the two arms (13,14) being pivoted at their other einds to spaced positions (15,16) on a wheel-carrying element (17) so that there is provided an articulated quadrilateral, and according to the invention, the wheel-carrying element (17) has an extension (117) beyond the part of that element which extends between the spaced pivots (15,16) of the two arms (13,14), there being the road wheel mounting (19) on this extension (117) of the wheel-carrying element (17). According to preferred features of the invention, the two arms (13,14) may be disposed on the same side of the wheel-carrying element (17) or on opposite sides of the wheel-carrying element (17), and the extension (117) on which the wheel is mounted extends in a direction approximately parallel with the ground, when the vehicle is unloaded. Specific embodiments of the invention include a motor-cycle, a motor vehicle having the suspension system applied to both front and rear road wheels, and the undercarriage of an aircraft.
