An apparatus (10) is provided for supplying streams of molten glass to be drawn into continuous glass fibers. The apparatus comprises a receptacle (22), a feeding device (30), a heating device (24) and a plurality of bushings (50). The receptacle (22) is adapted to receive glass-forming batch materials (40) to be melted into molten glass material (42) such that a pool (42a) of molten glass material (42) is provided in the receptacle (22) below a layer (40a) of glass-forming batch materials (40). The receptacle (22) includes a plurality of openings (70) through which primary streams (42b) of molten glass material flow. The feeding device feeds the glass-forming batch materials to the receptacle. The heating device is associated with the receptacle and is adapted to generate heat to melt the glass-forming batch materials. The bushings are located adjacent to the receptacle such that each of the bushings receives one of the primary streams of molten glass material. The bushings include a plurality of nozzles (53) for supplying secondary streams of molten glass material to be drawn into continuous glass fibers.

A screen (14) comprises an electrically conductive elongate inner screen plate (36). The inner screen plate has at least one elongate fold (42) therein and at least two elongate divergent surfaces (44) on opposing sides of the fold. Each divergent surface has an upper end (46) and opposing edges (50) tapering downward from the upper end. The upper ends of the divergent surfaces diverge from one another. Each of the divergent surfaces has a plurality of holes (40) therein. The screen further comprises at least two electrically conductive outer screen plates (38). The outer screen plates are attached to the edges of the divergent surfaces and extend between the divergent surfaces. Each of the outer screen plates has a plurality of holes (40) therein. Another embodiment of the invention is directed toward a glass fiber bushing system comprising a bushing body (12) and a screen within the bushing body. The bushing body has opposing end plates (16). The screen comprises opposing ends (26). Each of the ends has an upper portion (28) and a lower portion (30). The upper portion of each of the ends is attached to one of the end plates. The lower portion of each of the ends is spaced apart from the end plates.
