A salt resistant composition comprising a polyamide selected from the group consisting of: polyepsiloncaprolactam, polyhexamethylene adipamide; copolymers of caprolactam, hexamethylene diamine, and adipic acid; and mixtures thereof. The composition contains from 2 to 30 percent, and preferably 4 to 30 percent based on the weight of the polyamide of a water insoluble plasticizer, and a copolymer of an alpha-olefin and an unsaturated carboxylic acid and derivatives thereof. The plasticizer has been found to enable the polyamide composition to maintain its flexibility upon exposure to a variety of salts. Preferred plasticizers include lauryl lactam and sulfonamides. Preferred are sulfonamide type plasticizers such as n-ethyl o,p-toluenesulfonamide; o,p-toluene sulfonamide, and toluene sulfonamide formaldehyde resin. The invention includes articles made from the composition.

The invention provides a synthetic resin stabilizer whose effective ingredient comprises a mixture of (I) at least one phenolic compound represented by the general formula: wherein R, is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an acyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and n is an integer from 1 to 4, and (II) at least one sulfur-containing compound selected from compounds represented by the general formulae (11-1) and (11-2): wherein R 2 is an alkyl group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, and wherein R 3 is an alkyl group having 3 to 18 carbon atoms, and R 4 and R 5 are selected independently from hydrogen and alkyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The compounds (I) wherein n is 1 to 3 are novel. The stabilizer is useful for improving the stability to heat, light or oxygen of a wide range of synthetic resins, including polyolefins and particularly polypropylene.

A composition containing a chelated titanium compound and an additive selected from the group consisting of (1) esters of thioalkanoic acids, (2) di-tertiary-butyl phenol containing compounds, (3) organic phosphites, and (4) mixtures of (2) and (3), retards the color change of the composition on storage. When this composition is used as the catalyst for one package, room temperature curing silicone elastomeric compositions of the type comprising a hydroxyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxane and a silane having an average of from 2.01 to 4 Inclusive alkoxy radicals, the silicone elastomeric composition can be stored without substantial color formation. The improvement in reduced color change is useful in silicone elastomeric compositions which are clear or light colored.

Medical articles made of a resin composition comprising a polyvinyl chloride and a tetracarboxylic tetraester are provided. As examples of the tetracarboxylic tetraester are mentioned tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenylethertetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethyl-hexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenyimethane- tetracarboxylate, tetra(n-dodecyl) 2,3,3',4'-biphenyl-1,1-ethanetetracarboxylate, tetra(2-ethylhexyl) 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl-2,2-propanetetracarboxylate and the like. The tetracarboxylic tetraester is incorporated in an amount from 20 to 120, preferably from 30 to 100 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polyvinyl chloride. As dissolution and migration to the surface of the article of the plasticizer tetracarboxylic tetraester are low in the medical articles, said medical articles produce no adverse effects upon body fluids such as blood when contacted. Examples of preferred medical articles are blood preservation vessels, catheters and blood transfusion sets.

These compounds have utility as synergistic stabilizers with phenolic type antioxidants in the stabilization of organic materials such as natural and synthetic 'polymers, rubbers, lubricants and oils, etc.
