The present invention refers to a washable hot melt adhesive and its production method for the container industry, particularly, but not exclusively, for labelling paper, polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), namely but not exclusively, polyethylene terephthalate (PET), glass and cardboard containers. The composition of hot melt adhesive comprises a polymeric component selected from polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and copolymers of vinylpyrrolidone and vinyl acetate (PVP/VA), a resin component, a plasticizer component, and an antioxidant component. The hot melt adhesive composition allows the substrates to be washed only with water during the recycling process, which allows labels to be easily removed without the need for friction, facilitating the recycling process of the materials on which the hot melt adhesive is applied.

A sirup is made with a styrenic prepolymer, (meth)acrylate monomer and multifunctional (meth)acrylate crosslinking agent. The adhesive composition afforded by this sirup is polymerized in place using a conventional free radical initiators and activators. The adhesive is found especially useful as a joint adhesive for solid surface materials.
