The invention discloses an electrical heating coal material decomposition apparatus, which includes a closed kiln body (1) with a feed inlet (2) and a discharge outlet (3). An electrical heating device (4) is arranged in the kiln body (1). A propulsion and decomposition path of coal material (10) is formed between the electrical heating device (4) and the inner wall of the kiln body (1). A coal decomposition gas collecting pipe (5) which is communicated with the propulsion and decomposition path of coal material (10) is arranged on the kiln body (1). The coal decomposition gas collecting pipe (5) is connected with a gas dust-traping and liquefying device (8) which is arranged outside the kiln (1). The electrical heating device (4) transfers mass of heat produced to the pulverized coal inside the propulsion and decomposition path of coal material (10) by conduction and irradiation. The pulverized coal absorbs heat sufficiently and achieves increase in temperature. It is decomposed into fuel gas, tar gas and coal with high heat value inside the propulsion and decomposition path of coal material (10). The fuel gas and tar gas enter the gas dust-trapping and liquefying mechanism (8) through the decomposed gas collecting tube (5). The decomposed fuel gas and tar gas are collected, dust-trapped, separated and liquefied under pressure.

A hybrid method for producing energy from a carbonaceous material including the steps of: heating the carbonaceous material under a reduced oxygen atmosphere in a distillation plant to generate distillate vapours; processing the resulting distillate vapours; transferring the char residue from the distillation plant to a power station boiler; and combusting the char residue in the power station boiler for the generation of electrical power. The char residue is transferred to a power station boiler while the char residue retains heat from the heating in the distillation plant. An integrated energy conversion system including: a distillation plant for the destructive distillation of carbonaceous material to afford distillate vapours and a char residue; a power station boiler; a means of transferring the char residue at a temperature between 300 to 700°C from the distillation plant to the bed power station; and collection means for the distillate vapours.

A low-energy input process for the pyrolytic conversion of biomass to charcoal or carbonized charcoal is provided. The biomass is sealed in a container (14), pressurized with air (1) and heated to ignition by rod heaters (16). Control of pressure by input of air and release of gases to maintain successively lower pressure levels results in a typical time for the conversion of less than 30 minutes.
